Castlevania season 4 is on the way, and director Samuel Deats has shared a first look the upcoming episodes. The Netflix animated show is based on a series of Japanese video games of the same name and debuted in 2017. Castlevania follows the characters of Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage), Alucard (James Callis), and Sypha Belnades (Alejandra Reynoso), who work together to fight Dracula. The show has a large cast of voice actors, with Armitage, Callis, and Reynoso among the only ones to appear in all seasons. Castlevania season 3 released in its entirety in March 2020, with season 4 announced only a few weeks later.

Since then, there have been few updates on the new episodes, including a release date. However, it is known that Warren Ellis, Castlevania's creator and writer, won't be back after season 4. The news came in August, after Ellis had already completed his work on the upcoming season. Earlier in the summer, Ellis was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of people, resulting in his departure from Castlevania and other projects. It remains to be seen how that will affect the show's prospects after season 4. Ellis wrote every episode of seasons 1-3, so he plays a major role in the series behind-the-scenes.

Luckily, Deats seems confident in the upcoming episodes, sharing two screenshots from season 4 on Twitter. Though the images don't reveal anything major about the story, they do provide a first look at Sypha and Trevor in the upcoming season. Deats also increased anticipation for the episodes with an encouraging message about his work on season 4 so far. Check out the director's post below:

The images on their own are exciting, as first look photos always are. Fans will likely begin to speculate on Castlevania season 4 now if they haven't already. However, Deats' caption is arguably more interesting. His claim season 4 is "phenomenal" should make viewers even more eager for the new episodes. It should also come as a relief to those worried about the show in light of the Ellis revelations, though a potential season 5 will arguably be the biggest test for Castlevania.

Now that the first look has been released, announcing a date for season 4 seems like the next logical step. Over a year passed between both seasons 1 and 2 and seasons 3 and 4. Following this pattern, summer 2021 could be a good time for season 4's release. Hopefully, Netflix makes an announcement about the new Castlevania episodes soon so viewers know one way or another.
