Whether Castlevania season 5 eventually happens or a spinoff/sequel series releases on Netflix, it doesn't seem like the story is over yet. Based on the iconic video game series of the same name, Netflix's Castlevania anime became a massive success for the streaming service when it premiered in 2017, and each subsequent season has seen the same amount of critical and commercial success with viewers. But unfortunately, it's now come to an end with its fourth season.

Castlevania season 4 wraps up the main story of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard, as well as that of Dracula. What began as a revenge plot by Dracula to wipe out the human race has culminated in a final showdown in Dracula's Castle, with the aforementioned trio going to great lengths to prevent the personification of Death from succeeding in reviving Dracula and ending humanity.

Thankfully, Castlevania season 4 wrapped up the story in a way that gave everyone a happy ending, including Dracula and his wife, Lisa Tepes. However, there's always more tales to be told in this world; the series mainly adapted one video game, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and there's hundreds of years' worth of adventures, heroes, and villains that come before and after in the video game franchise.

Castlevania Season 5 Updates

Castlevania Season 4

Unfortunately, Castlevania season 5 hasn't been ordered by Netflix and likely won't be for some time, if ever. When season 4 was announced, Netflix confirmed it would be the final series for the animated series, and judging by the ending, it certainly seems like that's the case, despite the groundwork being laid for future stories. Still, Castlevania season 4 doesn't seem to be the end of the full story.

Castlevania Spinoff Show

Along with news that Castlevania season 4 would be the final season came reports of a new Castlevania series being put in development, one that would take place in the same universe. Netflix has denied that the new show will be a straight spinoff, meaning none of the main characters in the original Castlevania anime will show up in the new production. Instead, it could be that Netflix's new Castlevania series will be a prequel or sequel series following new characters. And Castlevania video game fans know there a few stories that would work perfectly.

How Castlevania's Story Can Continue

Hector and Lenore in Castlevania Season 4

Since the main Castlevania series wraps up the story of Dracula's Curse, the logical next step would be to jump forward a few hundred years and tell the tale of Simon Belmont, a descendant of Trevor Belmont and the original hero in the games. Season 4 sets up this storyline by revealing Trevor and Sypha are expecting a child, as well as the fact that Dracula has returned from the dead. One of the many reasons Castlevania has survived as a game series for so long is that Dracula and Death always return, and there's always a Belmont to fight them when that happens. That means it would be easy to effectively retell Castlevania's story - broadly, that is - while also introducing new environments, characters, and side stories.

Another route the new Castlevania series can take is show the origin of Dracula and Trevor's ancestor, Leon Belmont, the first person to become a monster hunter and set the Belmont Clan down the path that Trevor follows. Netflix's Castlevania went to lengths to depict Dracula in a sympathetic light, but the story of how he became the feared vampire would be interesting to see as well.
