Netflix has released a series of new promo images for Castlevania season 4, showing Alucard, Sypha, Trevor, and others preparing for the bloody battles to come. The anime series has received widespread acclaim since its premiere on Netflix in 2017, and it’s led the way for a number of other video game adaptations on the streamer. Castlevania season 4, which will also be the show's final season, is set to premiere on May 13.

Based on the classic video game series of the same name, Castlevania takes place in a fictionalized 15th century Wallachia where vampires, demons, and other creatures of the night roam free. The early seasons dealt specifically with Dracula and his war of vengeance against humanity after the killing of his wife, but the show has since expanded to include a large ensemble of characters and factions. The core characters of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard are pulled from Castlevania III, while the rest of the cast is a mix of later game additions and brand-new characters.

The new promo images from Netflix show glimpses of what’s to come in Castlevania season 4, including battle shots of Alucard, Sypha, and Trevor, a range of new deadly monsters, and some gorgeous locales. Season 4 will carry the same stylish, gothic aesthetic as its predecessors, and the results are just as striking. “Wallachia collapses into chaos as factions clash: some attempting to take control, others attempting to bring Dracula back from the dead,” the official season 4 description reads. “Nobody is who they seem, and nobody can be trusted. These are the end times.” Check out the new Castlevania season 4 images below.

Though it began as a relatively simple short-form video game adaptation, Castlevania has developed its own distinct identity over the course of its first three seasons. The show has received high praise for both its loyalty to the source material and its original worldbuilding. From the hyperviolent action to the stellar work of the series’ voice cast, Castlevania has set a blueprint in many ways for how to do video game adaptations the right way. Its success has undoubtedly played into Netflix’s more recent rights acquisitions for other major game properties like Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil.

Castlevania season 4’s teases that Dracula could be resurrected are particularly exciting. The vampire dies and returns to life numerous times in the video games, so there’s plenty of precedent for him to make a comeback. It looks like Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard will have their hands full in Castlevania season 4, especially if Dracula is still a threat.
