Ryan Reynolds celebrated the one-year anniversary over the smash hit Deadpool and the beginning of his new X-Men franchise over the weekend, but there's little time to waste for the star and producer who's involved at every level of development on the sequel as he was on the first.
Reynolds helped handpick the writers, director, and cast of the first movie and with Deadpool 2 we can already expect the same from the Canadian actor who waited for a decade to get the "Merc with a Mouth" his fair shake on screen.
Deadpool 2 is expected to release in 2018 and so production will start in the near future and that means he, director David Leitch (who's taking over for Tim Miller for the followup) and Twentieth Century Fox have to cast a few key Marvel Comics characters including the time-travelling mutant Cable and the lucky mercenary Domino. While rumors and reports have suggested many names for the role of Cable (the latest of whom is Pierce Brosnan), we now also have details on the Domino casting front.
That Hashtag Show has an inside source who shared the following details of what's being looked for in casting Domino - a character who in the comics has the ability to subconsciously alter probabilities that allow her to get lucky and her opponents, unlucky. She doesn't usually miss shots with her guns and she's near impossible to kill. Interestingly, the casting breakdown doesn't even bother using a codename to hide what the role is for and refers to the character by her real first name "Neena."
- All ethnicities
- Late 20s – early 30s
- Sexy, lithe and athletic
- She has a witty personality.
- Neena is a no-nonsense badass who rarely shows her feeling. Highly capable, supremely confident and armored in . . . well ARMOR . . . and bullet-proof sarcasm. But beneath her shell she’s still and vulnerable and some soft, beating remnant of her humanity remains intact. In this scene we need to see both sides. When she can't get what she needs with insults, bluster and threats we need to see some of that vulnerability. It’s hard for her to let down her guard, and in the mercenary community she grew up in showing compassion is almost embarrassing. We should feel like she’d be more comfortable killing Silberman than saying “Please”.
But there's more! Their source also claims to know of some Hollywood stars who've already been in the running. They claim British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Free State of Jones, God Particle) and New York born Sienna Miller (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Foxcatcher) have passed on the role and testing right now is Kerry Washington (Django Unchained, Scandal).
