Our roundup of casting news today includes more rumors about the cast and characters of James Bond 23, the addition of a solid actress to the already star-studded cast of the comic book flick R.I.P.D., and word that an Oscar-winner has become attached to Tree of Life helmer Terrence Malick's latest, as-yet untitled project.

While the next film featuring Daniel Craig as secret agent 007 is slated to hit theaters by the end of 2012, there's been very little definite information about what new additions will be showing up in the film. By comparison, a good chunk of the cast for R.I.P.D. - which won't arrive until Summer 2013 - has already been announced, with filming set to start next month. Lastly, Malick's new project could be arriving in two years time as well.

James Bond 23

Coming Soon has heard that Ben Whishaw (Bright Star, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer) will be co-starring in the 23rd James Bond pic in a yet-to-be-revealed role. If this is true, then director Sam Mendes' action-packed spy thriller will mark a reunion of sorts for Whishaw and Craig, who previously appeared together in the films Enduring Love and Layer Cake. However, fellow Enduring Love costar, Rhys Ifans, is apparently not on board after all.

Rumor also has it the two new Bond girl roles in the film  - not including Judi Dench as M and Naomie Harris as the new Moneypenny - will be a "beautiful English Agent" and a "beautiful Asian woman." There are plenty of worthy actresses that could fit those descriptions, so we'll leave that open for speculation.

Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes have yet to be officially confirmed as the baddies in Bond 23, and the plot remains a mystery for now as well. Seeing that production is slated to begin this November, we should get some concrete answers to all these rumors and questions soon enough.

Mary-Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin

Mary-Louise Parker remains beloved for her Golden Globe-winning role as drug-dealing suburbanite Nancy Botwin on Weeds, and added another winning turn in last year's surprise hit action-comedy comic book adaptation, Red. So the news that she'll reunite with the director of that flick, Robert Schwentke, on another action-comedy comic book adaptation, R.I.P.D., should be welcome.

R.I.P.D. will star Ryan Reynolds as a newly undead cop who joins a supernatural police force, in order to track down his murderer. Jeff Bridges is playing Bo, Reynolds' grizzled partner, and Variety says that Parker is going to play Proctor, a woman who has "been involved" with Bridges in the past. Kevin Bacon reportedly remains onboard to play the villain of the piece.

Reynolds' bankability took a blow this summer, after the one-two punch of Green Lantern and The Change-Up, which have both underperformed at the box office. R.I.P.D. could fare much better when it arrives in theaters - not to mention, be an entertaining variation on the standard buddy cop movie.

New Terrence Malick Project

Considering that Terrence Malick has averaged releasing one film every decade for the past forty years, it's all the more shocking that he plans to release a new movie both next year and in 2013. Presumably, he's just finally moving forward with certain ideas that have been long in development, but still...

TwitchFilm has learned that Christian Bale (who costarred in Malick's The New World) is attached to his currently-untitled new movie, which the secretive auteur will begin shooting very soon - once he wraps post-production duties on his planned 2012 release, which stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, and his Tree of Life starlet, Jessica Chastain.

Bale and Malick are a great combination, regardless of whether or not the project in question is Malick's Voyage of Time - a film that will reportedly examine the birth and death of the universe (in other words, the "creation montage" from Tree of Life as a feature-length film). For devoted Malick fans, it's a very exciting time, all things considered.

James Bond 23 will hit U.S. theaters on November 9th, 2012.

R.I.P.D. is scheduled for theatrical release on June 28th, 2013.

The new Terrence Malick project could also reach theaters by 2013.
