Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has given audiences their first look at the new superhero Stature, the mantle taken up by Scott Lang/Ant-Man's daughter, Cassie Lang. Prior to her role in the first movie in MCU Phase 5, Cassie Lang first appeared as a child in the first Ant-Man movie. In Cassie's return to the MCU in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania — possibly the biggest Marvel movie since Avengers: Endgame —- she is prepared to become a size-altering superhero herself. But who is Stature, the hero Cassie Lang looks poised to become aft Ant-Man 3?

The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailers tease the Ant-Family — Scott, Cassie, Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne — as they are sucked back into the Quantum realm with no way of escaping. Here, the team encounters all sorts of threats, including Kang the Conqueror, the villain of the MCU's Multiverse Saga. Cassie Lang isn't one to just sit on the sidelines, as the Ant-Man 3 trailers show off the now-adult Cassie Lang in her own purple Pym Particle-powered suit, which looks very similar to the suits of Scott and Hope. Cassie is set to be a major character in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and here's everything there is to know about the character, including her comic history, her powers, and her role in the new movie.

How Cassie Lang Becomes Stature In Marvel Comics

Cassie Lang aka Stature in Marvel Comics

While Cassie Lang had been in Marvel Comics since 1979, she didn't make her first appearance as Stature until Young Avengers #6 in 2005. After the death of Ant-Man/Scott Lang, Cassie runs away and attempts to join the Young Avengers to fill her dad's big shoes. Cassie finds Kate Bishop, and the two head to Avengers Mansion in order to join the ranks of the Young Avengers. An argument soon breaks out, causing Cassie to grow uncontrollably, with Ant-Man's daughter later admitting that she had secretly been taking Pym particles for years.

Soon after this, Cassie jumps into action for the first time when Kang the Conqueror attacks Avengers Mansion, with her later deciding to take up the name of Stature. Although, as is a tradition in comics, Cassie has died, come back to life, and taken up different identities (such as when she was an undercover villain named Stinger), Stature has remained a staple of the Young Avengers since her introduction, with many readers growing to love the character.

Are Stature's Powers The Same As Ant-Man's?

Cassie Lang and Scott Lang

The powers of Scott Lang/Ant-Man are relatively simple, with his suit allowing him to shrink down or grow large while maintaining the same strength. The Wasp also has very similar powers, with the addition of flight due to a pair of wings attached to her suit. Considering that all the Ant-Family's powers come from Pym particles, it makes sense that Stature's powers are relatively simple to her predecessors -— with one major exception.

In the comics, Cassie can shrink and grow without the use of a suit. This is due to her radiating her heart with controlled exposure to Pym particles, something she did in secret over many years. While there are some benefits to this, Stature also has some weaknesses, with her occasionally being unable to control her size changes. It isn't sure if Ant-Man 3 will let Cassie's powers work without the suit, as she is seen wearing a purple suit similar to the rest of the characters, but the radiation storyline would allow Ant-Man's daughter to stand out among so many similarly-powered heroes.

What We Know About Cassie Lang's Role In Ant-Man 3

Ant-Man, Stature, and The Wasp

Cassie Lang is expected to have a much more significant role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania than she did in the prior two Ant-Man movies. Previously, Cassie Lang was portrayed by a much younger actor, with the character mostly acting as a motivation for Scott to clean up his act. During Avengers: Endgame, though, it was revealed that Cassie Lang survived the Snap, meaning that she aged several years during the time Scott was stuck in the Quantum Realm. It has been heavily rumored that the film will follow Cassie's struggle to reconnect with her dad after his long absence and newfound fame — but that's not all she's doing.

Ant-Man 3 recast Cassie Lang, with Kathryn Newton taking the character over from Endgame actor Emma Fuhrmann. This recasting was presumably done in order to have a more well-established actor play Stature in a long-term role, as Fuhrmann's appearance in Endgame was incredibly brief. In Quantumania, Cassie will finally become a superhero, gaining her abilities as Stature and joining Scott, Hope, and the rest in their battle against Kang.

The first trailer also shows that Cassie is the one who sent the signal to the Quantum Realm, causing the Ant-Family to be sucked into it. Cassie Lang's role in Quantumania is sure to be an emotional one, grappling with the struggles of becoming Stature, reconnecting with her father, and dealing with the guilt of getting everyone stuck in the Quantum Realm. However, Quantumania will also feature one more key element for Cassie Lang: setting up the future of Stature.

Cassie Lang's Future As Stature In The MCU

Joining the roster of the Young Avengers, battling other Kang variants, and possibly even dealing with the death of Scott Lang are all potential storylines Stature could have to deal with in her MCU future. As was previously mentioned, Stature is one of the core members of the Young Avengers, alongside other recently-introduced MCU characters like Kate Bishop, Ironheart, Eli Bradley, and more. With the introduction of all these young heroes, the MCU is clearly setting up a Young Avengers movie, and Stature is a shoo-in for a leading role in the film.

Not only would she be one of the most powerful characters on the team, but she would also be the only one that has experience fighting Kang — something that will be very important throughout the Multiverse Saga. Considering their friendship in the comics, Cassie Lang could play a big role in Kate Bishop's MCU future, as she is potentially being shaped up to act as the leader of the Young Avengers.

Speaking of Kang, Stature's comic origins make her more connected to the Conqueror than most. In the comics, Stature enters a relationship with Iron Lad, a young Kang variant that has yet to be introduced in the MCU. This is another possible storyline for the MCU's future, as Kang variants are expected to be popping up all across the franchise leading up to Avengers: Secret Wars. It has also been speculated that Kang will actually kill Scott Lang in Quantumania, potentially putting Cassie's MCU arc on a very similar path to her comic book origins. Scott's death could be a catalyst for Cassie's realization of the importance of her work as stature, setting her up as one of the big players in MCU Phases 5 and 6. While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will introduce Stature, the movie will be far from the end of Stature's story in the MCU.

Are There Other Cassie Lang Superhero Identities?

Ant-Man's daughter, Cassie Lang, has several other comic book monikers besides Stature that she could use in the MCU, especially with all the Multiverse variants running around. Before she settled on the name Stature, Cassie considered the codenames "Titan" and "Ant-Girl." Notably, during her short-lived stint as a lone vigilante in the comics, Cassie distances herself from her overbearing father and attempts to take down a supervillain ring from the inside as Stinger. However, as Stinger, Cassie gets manipulated into infiltrating Cross Technologies, forcing Scott to rescue her with a group of supervillains. In the end, Cassie's parents realize they can't stop Cassie from being a superhero.

Curiously, the fate of Ant-Man's daughter (as Stinger) in the comics is connected to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania villain MODOK, who in the first Ant-Man movie was Yellowjacket/Darren Cross of Cross Technologies. Moreover, Stinger's origin story is also somewhat mirrored by the temporary team-up between Scott and Kang the Conqueror as teased in the Ant-Man 3 trailer. Undoubtedly, how Marvel adapts the origin story of Cassie Lang/Stature/Stinger into the MCU will help set the tone for the rest of the Young Avengers in MCU Phase 5.
