Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania teases some big dangers for the title characters along with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), and through the latter, it supports a worrying Ant-Man theory. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently exploring the many dangers and secrets of the multiverse in its Multiverse Saga, and a key movie in it will be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will properly introduce the MCU’s next big villain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will see Scott, Hope, Janet, Hank, and Cassie accidentally traveling to the Quantum Realm, where they will explore this previously unseen dimension and come across strange new creatures that Janet had previously met. However, they will also find that there’s a big and threatening presence in the Quantum Realm that has been waiting for them, and who will become a major menace to the multiverse. Now, a lot has been said about Ant-Man 3 being the movie that will see the death of the title character, and Cassie's role in it supports these theories.

Will Marvel Really Kill Off Ant-Man?

Ant-Man talking to Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer

Marvel has actually been planting clues here and there throughout the MCU’s Phase 4 that point to Scott Lang’s days being numbered. Following his role in Avengers: Endgame, in which he brought up the concept of the Time Heist through the Quantum Realm, the MCU has slowly but surely elevated Ant-Man’s status by making him as popular and famous as his fellow Avengers, as seen in Rogers: The Musical including him (even though he wasn’t present at the Battle of New York) and the opening of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer confirming Ant-Man is now widely known and loved. In addition to all this, Kang is the biggest threat the MCU has seen so far, and even though one of his variants (He Who Remains) has already been defeated, Kang is a whole new story, and Ant-Man wouldn’t be able to defeat him, not even with the help of Hank, Janet, Hope, and Cassie.

The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania teaser shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 even showed Kang asking Scott if he’s one of the Avengers that he has already killed, giving the audience a taste of how powerful and dangerous he really is and how many others have tried and failed to defeat him. Ant-Man, then, could very well be on his way to dying in Ant-Man 3, more so as Kang is shown in the trailer telling Scott that he can take them back home if he helps him, and it surely won’t be a fair deal, leading to Scott’s death if he refuses to cooperate. Ant-Man’s death would show how serious Kang’s threats truly are and would give not only Hank, Janet, Hope, and Cassie an even bigger reason to ask for help to defeat Kang but also pushing the rest of the Avengers and other heroes to join forces.

How Cassie Lang Can Replace Ant-Man In The MCU

Ant-Man, The Wasp, and Cassie in Quantumania.

The “bright” side of Ant-Man’s possible death in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is that his daughter, Cassie, will be ready to take his place. The trailer shows Cassie had been working (apparently with Hank Pym) on a device that’s like “a satellite for deep space, but quantum”, so she is as intelligent (or even more) as her father – let’s not forget Scott Lang has a master’s in electrical engineering, and he was key in the development of the Time Heist. Cassie is also shown wearing a suit similar to those of her father and the Wasp, so Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania could serve as her origin story, with her officially taking his place after his death. Cassie replacing Ant-Man would also be one step more towards a Young Avengers movie, as the MCU has already introduced a big part of the team.
