Cars on the Road Radiator Springs

Larry the Cable Guy: They must really like you, because everybody else only got four minutes, you get five. [Laughs]

Screen Rant: I'm special, I love it. To make the most of that, I've been a big fan of Cars since it launched, it's amazing to see it come back with Cars on the Road. What is it like for you looking back on these past 16 years with the franchise?

Larry the Cable Guy: Same as you, I was looking forward to it. I love voicing Mater; it's a completely different thing than anything I've ever done. I'm a stand-up comic, obviously, and I've done other projects; done other things. But this whole universe that I'm in is completely different. And it's world-renowned; it's all over the world; it's universal, which is really cool.

It's cool to do a project that everybody can enjoy all over the place, and it will always be there. So, when my kids bring their kids to Disney, they're gonna hear my voice. It's just a cool thing. I'm really very blessed to have been able to get this part.

Obviously, Disney is known for being world-renowned, but did you ever think Cars would get to the level that it has?

Larry the Cable Guy: I had no idea, I don't think anybody else did either. I didn't even know how big the part was when I first got it. [Laughs] I totally thought it was going to be a part where I got like five lines, but still, I'm in a Pixar movie, how awesome is that? Next thing you know, it just snowballed. It's like, "Wow, that is so crazy!" No, I didn't expect it.

But I will say once that first movie came out, it was awesome. It was adorable; it was such a great story. Everywhere you went, it was, "Mater this, Mater that; McQueen this, McQueen that." Everything else that came along was just, "Wow, it's crazy." I'm just very happy.

Cars Trucks

It's certainly earned, and I think the show is a great addition to the franchise. What was your initial reaction when you got to the scripts for each episode?

Larry the Cable Guy: They write such great scripts over there, so they're not gonna put anything out of that's just kind of half---ed. They want to put out a good script, so I knew when I went in there... There hasn't been a bad script yet. Every time I go in there, I have a blast, and it's fun. It's funny.

When I got the scripts, I said, "Wow, this is literally all Mater and McQueen," I mean, this is their [show]. I was excited about that, because Mater and McQueen, that's what Cars is. Cars is Mater and McQueen. It was great. And not only that, but it was what I thought it would be.

It was great story writing, and hilarious, and then when they let you interject your stuff, and sometimes they'll just go, "Hey, we needed something else here. What do we got?" and then we all kind of put our heads together. We're laughing every single episode we had. I had to go like, "Okay, hold on. Let's give me a couple minutes," because I couldn't stop laughing. You know how it is when you just get the laugh, and you can't stop laughing at something? There were a lot of those moments in this. I really think people are gonna get a charge out of it.

Did you have any favorite adventure within this show out of all the ones that you have?

Larry the Cable Guy: Man, you know what? I tell everybody, "They're like your kids, the episodes. Each adventure's like a kid." I don't want to say what I think my favorite one is, because it would delegitimize the other awesome ones that are there. I think each one of them had something that I loved.

Seeing how I already did [it], I thought it was cool to do Bigfoot; the whole thing with Bigfoot. I thought was fun, because I actually did that in the History Channel show. We went hunting Bigfoot. I thought it was kind of cool, I kind of drew from some of my memories for that for my reactions and stuff like that.

But haunted house! I mean, there's so many. The dinosaurs, so many good things. But no, they're all good. I would say my favorite is all nine of them.

That's a great answer. I think people are gonna have a hard time picking a favorite as well. It really is fun from start to finish, and I hope for more in the future. Larry, thank you so much for taking the time to chat, I really do appreciate it.

Larry the Cable Guy: You're hoping for more in the future, I'm hoping for more, so is Owen! [Laughs] No, thank you, I appreciate you, man.
