Last month we got our first proper look at Disney/Pixar’s latest sequel, Cars 2, via the Cars 2 teaser trailer and concept art. Then a couple of weeks later we got a better look at the sequel as the Cars 2 trailer hit the web, along with a teaser poster, the first official image and the all-important official synopsis.
That’s a lot of material geared at getting you excited for more Pixar car action, but if you’re eager to see more, we have a batch of new images that have been released, showcasing the new characters who will be joining those we already know and love.
Joining Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub and the rest of the original voice cast we have the likes of Michael Caine and Jason Isaacs bringing their talents to the table.
So, without further ado, check out the new characters of Cars 2 below, along with the thier names and the actors voicing them:
Pixar has a knack of choosing actors with just the right kind of voice – actors who not only fit their individual characters but fit the movie as a whole. I am struggling to think of any instance in a Pixar movie where I felt a voice was out of place or miscast.
With Cars 2 I’m particularly looking forward to the addition of the great Michael Caine as the hilariously named Finn McMissile. Caine is certainly getting a lot of work in his older age, but in my books it’s still not tiring seeing him pop up here, there and everywhere in movies.
I’m still not quite sure what I think about Pixar making more and more sequels to their past hits – along with Cars 2 there’s also Monsters Inc. 2 on the way, and a sequel to The Incredibles has also been rumored over the years. Toy Story was the only franchise I thought lent itself intrinsically to sequels, and of course the studio followed the first one up with Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, the latter of which recently became the highest grossing animated movie of all time. I’m not against sequels to Cars and Monster’s Inc., per se, but they just don’t seem entirely necessary.
Cars 2 is scheduled to open in 3D and regular theaters on June 24th, 2011.
