Carl Weathers is the latest actor rumored to have been cast in live-action Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian. The series revolves around a new Mandalorian warrior, and will take place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The show was created by Jon Favreau, and the program will be directed by many different people, including Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi.
Since the show is still in principal photography, there haven't been any casting announcements just yet. Even though fans haven't received any official casting information for The Mandalorian, rumors about possible stars continue to fly. Game of Thrones and Narcos actor Pedro Pascal is currently rumored to play the central lead for the show. Howard and Waititi are also rumored to have roles on the series, even though they've been confirmed for directing gigs. Now with the latest rumor, an acting veteran will reportedly join the project.
According to the podcast Making Star Wars, Weathers is the latest actor to come aboard The Mandalorian. While the podcast doesn't reveal who Weathers might be playing, they reveal that he's not expected to play the main character in the show. The podcast also seemed to support the rumor that Waitiiti will be voicing a droid, and that Howard will also appear on the show. That being said, nothing has been confirmed just yet.
Besides the directing announcements and the brief Mandalorian plot synopsis Favreau shared on Instagram, not a lot of information has been confirmed for the show. The Mandalorian's weapon in the new show is based on The Star Wars Holiday Special, and ILM TV has announced they will be providing the visual effects for The Mandalorian. The show is also expected to be available for streaming sometime in 2019 on Disney's new service Disney Plus.
Given Weathers' extensive background in the film industry, he could be a valuable member of the cast if he does join the show. Weathers is known for starring in the films Predator and Rocky, but has more recently appeared in episodes of Law & Order: SVU and Magnum P.I. With The Mandalorian reportedly costing $100 million to make - and the rumored connection to the canceled Star Wars: 1313 game - adding a popular actor like Weathers could be another way to get people to watch the show. That being said, even if this rumor doesn't turn out to be true, people will still likely tune in.
The Mandalorian premieres on Disney Plus in 2019.
