Warning! Spoilers ahead for Captain Marvel #29

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers thinks she's worse than the Terminator. After her harrowing and revealing time in the future, Captain Marvel has become convinced that the only way she can defeat the villain Ove is to learn magic. However, no one has been willing to teach her, making Amora the Enchantress her last resort. While this is already problematic enough due to Amora being a villain herself, she's also the future mother of Ove, the villainous son who will one day be born of the Enchantress and Namor.

Because Ove made it back to Captain Marvel's present to take over the world, time is of the essence and Carol believes that she needs to learn magic as soon as possible. However, Doctor Strange believes that not only would Carol be a bad student, but that she would become much too powerful even if she could learn how to wield and harness magic. However, Carol is nothing if not determined, asking every magician she could find to see if they would help her, only to be rejected several times. Finally, she went to Amora the Enchantress, hoping that spite for Doctor Strange would motivate her enough to train her.

While Amora seemingly agrees, she confusingly takes Carol to a site beneath the waves where two massive eels are guarding a magical pearl known as The Heart of the Serpent. Enchantress expects Captain Marvel to retrieve the pearl. With Carol left alone to her task, she thinks to herself about her current mission and how truly twisted it all is. One particularly hilarious comparison she makes to her current situation is to that of James Cameron's The Terminator. Seeing as how she's using Amora to possibly kill her future son, she compares herself to the Terminator, except in this scenario, the T-800 robot played by Arnold Schwarzenegger would be trying to force Sarah Connor to kill her own son.

Captain Marvel is certainly operating in a moral gray area, and she knows it. However, she seemingly has no choice but to believe that her ends will justify her means so long as she remains determined to learn magic to stop Ove. In any case, Carol manages to secure the pearl and uses her impressive powers to escape the magical prison that had been formed around her once she took it (essentially proving Strange's point about her becoming over-powered).

It looks as though Captain Marvel got what she was after, though it remains to be seen why she had to obtain it in the first place for the Enchantress, who conveniently disappeared once the pearl had been claimed. Furthermore, it definitely seems like Carol's actions as a worse Terminator are going to come back to bite her down the line as her series continues. While she may indeed learn magic from Amora, what will happen when Enchantress learns the truth? Captain Marvel is playing a dangerous game.
