The Venom symbiote has possessed a handful of people since it landed on Earth. Most famously, Eddie Brock has bonded with the symbiote to become the famous antihero, Venom. However, the symbiote has a favorite hero and it might surprise you: Captain Marvel.

In Seige: Spider-Man #1 by Brian Reed and Marco Santucci, it's Mac Gargan who acts as the host for the Venom symbiote. Venom attacks Spider-Man on Asgard (above Oklahoma) in the middle of the former Scorpion's killing spree. Spider-Man does his best to subdue Venom, but as he's about to get a bite taken out of him, Carol Danvers (then using the Ms. Marvel moniker) flies into action and wallops the symbiote.

In one of the most simultaneously badass and disgusting moments in Marvel Comics history, Carol reaches inside of Venom's mouth and pulls Marc out the hold of the symbiote. Unfortunately, things go haywire, as the symbiote attaches itself to Ms. Marvel despite Spider-Man's attempts to separate them. Spider-Man and the Venomized Carol Danvers fight as the new symbiote creation admits: "Ms. Marvel is now my favorite superhero!"

Venom Bonds With Captain Marvel

It's easy to see why Venom's symbiote would prefer Captain Marvel to every other hero it bonded with. Carol Danvers is one of the most - if not the most - powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Gaining that kind of power while still maintaining the vicious powers of the symbiote is a deadly combination. The upgrade from Gargan to Carol is massive. Bonding with Carol means the symbiote can do everything Venom can do, but even better. It can manipulate energy, fly, and who knows what else? If Spider-Man thought fighting a Gargan (or even Eddie Brock) powered symbiote was a problem, Captain Marvel is much, much worse.

Unfortunately for the symbiote, its stint with its new favorite superhero is short-lived. After Spider-Man gets the symbiote to chase him around the city, he leads it directly into a power line, which shocks the symbiote with enough energy allowing Carol to burst free from its grasp. The symbiote immediately retreats to its lesser host, Gargan. In the end, Spider-Man is lucky that the Venom symbiote never fully bonded with Ms. Marvel - otherwise, he would have faced perhaps the deadliest symbiote host yet. Although, it's too bad the symbiote never got the chance to stick with his favorite superhero. Alas, Captain Marvel was never meant to be the next Venom - even though that hero would have been ridiculously overpowered.
