The directors behind Captain Marvel want to see Carol team up with Valkyrie in the future. After over a decade of movies, Marvel Studios finally released their first female-led film earlier this year with Captain Marvel. The solo movie starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers was a massive success, earning over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The reception introduced Danvers to millions, with many immediately taking to her, and that's good news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she will lead the shared universe moving forward.
While the solo film was relatively closed off from the larger MCU thanks to its 1995 setting, audiences have now seen Captain Marvel in the present day and interacting with most of the other heroes the universe has to offer. This was highlighted in Avengers: Endgame where she served as one of the Avengers and then went on to turn the tide in the final battle. The moment she takes the Iron Man Gauntlet is what resulted in the all-female shot from the movie, which left fans wanting to see much more of Carol with other female heroes.
One of the most highly requested pairings is for Larson's Captain Marvel to team up with Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, who made her debut in Thor: Ragnarok and returned in Avengers: Endgame, too. When CinemaBlend spoke to Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck about the potential for their star character moving forward, they asked if that pairing is something they'd want to see. And just like everyone else, their answer is yes. They said:
Fleck: There's been a lot of... look, I have no idea what the plans are for the future. But the speculation online about Carol and Valkyrie teaming up, I think, is a pretty cool, pretty cool idea.
Boden: She's one of my favorite women of Marvel.
Valkryie and Danvers are two great characters on their own who are now positioned to be major forces in the MCU's future, so a crossover between them is hopefully on the horizon. As fun as it would be to see them share more screen time together, there are also many who want to see a potential friendship blossom into a romantic relationship. Larson and Thompson have both supported this idea online, too, and with so much discussion about it, there is a possibility that Marvel Studios puts that into their plans for the characters.
Of course, even if these two powerful heroes just remain friends, the team-up potential of them is still very exciting. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm what the future holds for either of them, but if Boden and Fleck are brought back to direct Captain Marvel 2, Boden's affinity for Valkyrie could make it all the more likely that she appears. If it isn't in a Captain Marvel sequel, though, it will hopefully only be a matter of time before Carol Danvers and Valkyrie team up in another MCU movie.
