A new international TV spot for Captain Marvel features exchanges between Carol Danvers and Nick Fury related to the pager that was seen in Avengers: Infinity War's post-credits scene. Captain Marvel serves as a prequel not only to Infinity War and its upcoming sequel, Avengers: Endgame, but also to most of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel will introduce the MCU's most powerful superhero yet. The titular character is a former US Air Force pilot who loses her memories and gains some Kree physiology as the result of an explosion, and ends up fighting among an elite Kree military team called Starforce in a war against the shape-shifting Skrulls. When the war brings her back to her home planet of Earth, Carol realizes that she once had a life there, and meets a young (pre-eyepatch) Nick Fury and his fellow SHIELD agent, Phil Coulson.

In Avengers: Infinity War's post-credits scene, after Thanos has snapped his fingers and wiped out half of all life in the universe, Nick Fury and Maria Hill watch in horror as people begin turning to dust around them. When Maria disappears, Fury realizes that he's probably going to be next and acts fast. He uses an extremely retro pager to make a call right before he too collapses into dust, and the final shot of the movie is a close-up of the pager with Captain Marvel's symbol on it. In this new TV spot for Captain Marvel, you can see some of the history of Carol Danvers, Nick Fury, and the pager.

Without a full translation from the Russian, it seems as though one scene involves Carol asking Nick Fury about the device that he's using, and he explains that it's a pager. In another clip, she holds out her hand and demands that he hands the pager over, and he obliges. It appears that the device will play a fairly prominent role in the movie, clearly linking it in the audience's mind to the end of Infinity War and the upcoming release of Avengers: Endgame.

It's pretty safe to assume that Carol hasn't actually been on Earth for the past ten years of the MCU, since she was conspicuously absent while New York City was being invaded by aliens and a psychotic robot was plotting to slam an entire city into the planet. So, based on this TV spot, it seems like that at some point after Nick Fury hands over his pager, Carol gives it a bit of a tech upgrade so that it can reach her no matter whereabouts in the universe she might be.

Given that Thanos' final act in Infinity War left the Avengers considerably short-handed, it's fortunate that Nick Fury managed to make the call before he got decimated. The superhero team are going to need all the help they can get for the second round, and a superhero who can fire energy blasts powerful enough to destroy spaceships from her hands is bound to be pretty helpful.
