Captain Marvel's brand new TV spot unveils Annette Bening's second character, and she appears to have some history with Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). The seasoned actress herself recently confirmed that she's playing Supreme Intelligence in the upcoming Marvel Studios flick, but she seems to be portraying another role other than the Kree leader.

Marketing for the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck-directed movie is already in full swing, with less than two weeks before it hits theaters all over the globe. With three trailers under its belt, fans have learned a little bit more about what to expect in Captain Marvel, which will feature young (still two-eyed) Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) back when they were still S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives. Incorporating the Kree-Skrull war into its narrative, the project will also debut a handful of new characters from both sides of the conflict like the members of the Starforce - Kree's elite squad, Yon Rogg (Jude Law) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). For a while, Bening's role in the movie has been tightly kept under wraps, but it was eventually revealed that she's playing Supreme Intelligence. However, a brand new promo spot for the movie provides fans their first look at her other character.

The 30-second clip shared by Marvel Universe Entertainment on YouTube is a mix of new and previously-seen snippets from Captain Marvel. But arguably the main takeaway from the bit is the conversation between Carol and Bening in an airforce base about the former's dreams of flying her own craft. What's interesting is that Bening is encouraging Carol - as if she's her mentor in the force, not to mention that she's dressed as an Earth-dweller - similar to her looks in the character posters for the movie. Bening's name wasn't revealed, but considering the recent reveal that she's playing Supreme Intelligence, this particular clip raises questions.

An early report regarding Bening's character claimed that she's playing Carol's mother. But there hasn't been indication from any of the official releases from Marvel Studios that this is the case. That is until the above clip rolled out, establishing her character's previous ties to Carol. Considering that the studio knew of Bening's interview with Stephen Colbert (they even rolled out a clip from the film for her guesting), chances are that this is exactly how they wanted to market the mysterious role.

There's a couple of possibilities that Bening's second Captain Marvel role poses. She may really be the Supreme Intelligence who came down to Earth and disguised himself as human being. The question is why. If she's here for the sole purpose of keeping an eye on Carol until she's ready to be recruited to become a member of the Starforce, it further deepens the mystery on why she's particularly picked to be brought to Hala. Another possibility is that this Earth-dweller may actually be Bening's real character in the film. In the comic books, the Supreme Intelligence is depicted as a green head. While Marvel Studios may have taken the creative liberty to give the character a human form on the big screen, there's a chance that there's a plot twist at play here, especially since the Kree has seemingly tampered with Carol's memories. Fortunately, fans won't have to wait to find out, with the movie debuting in just a few weeks.
