In the new Marvel Comics solicitations for March, an upcoming issue of Captain Marvel will see Carol Danvers dealing with a pretty bad break-up. Unfortunately, her longtime relationship with James Rhodes (War Machine) will soon be coming to an end and will cause some understandable emotional turmoil for the powerful hero. However, Carol has some friends (like Spider-Woman) who might care a little too much about her in Captain Marvel #27, and it looks as though Carol may get herself caught up in the superhero dating scene, featuring Spider-Man, Namor, and many more eligible bachelors in the Marvel Universe for her to contend with.

Captain Marvel and War Machine's relationship began just before the events of 2016's Civil War II. That event saw Danvers and Iron Man at odds with one other over the use (or non-use) of the precognitive abilities of a new Inhuman. However, the death of Rhodes that occurred as a result, created a personal rift between Carol and Tony Stark that only served to escalate tensions. However, Rhodes' didn't stay dead for long, and his relationship with Carol resumed in the comics in the aftermath of the war...until now.

Now, it looks as though Rhodes and Danvers are headed for a pretty bad break-up, seeing their time together coming to a difficult close in the soon to be released Captain Marvel #27 from Kelly Thompson and David López. The cover art from Marco Checchetto is pretty revealing as well, seeing heroes such as Spider-Man, Namor, Falcon, Iron Man, and Ant-Man trying to win her affections, all while Danvers herself is just trying to enjoy some lunch. Here is the synopsis and cover art for the issue from Marvel Comics:

  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #27
  • KELLY THOMPSON (W) • David López (A) • Cover by MARCO CHECCHETTO
  • Variant cover by STEPHANIE HANS
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL-THING VARIANT COVER BY BERNARD CHANG
  • SWIPE RIGHT, CAPTAIN MARVEL!
  • Carol Danvers is back! Or is she? Devastated by her breakup with Rhodey, Carol can’t seem to get back into her groove. Sure, monsters are still getting punched, but things are also getting missed…and boy, oh boy, is she grouchy. Before she can drive them fully insane, Carol’s friends stage an intervention that looks a hell of a lot like speed dating. With friends like these, who needs enemies?! Featuring beloved Captain Marvel veteran artist David López!

While it seems as though Danvers won't be so heartbroken that she'll be unable to save the day as Captain Marvel, the synopsis indicates that she naturally won't be in a very good mood either. However, is superhero speed-dating really what she'll be needing? While her friends seem to think so, it looks like Carol herself will be less than enthused, and it seems likely she'll be swiping left as opposed to right. On the other hand, it might be interesting to see who in the Marvel Universe she would pick to serve as a rebound date. However it goes down, here's hoping Captain Marvel is able to move on and get back to her old self in as healthy of a way as possible.
