A new casting call suggests that major Marvel character Rick Jones may appear in Captain Marvel in a key role. Rick, a character who has served as a sidekick to the Hulk, Captain America, and the original Captain Marvel, is definitely due for an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Two weeks ago, it was reported that actor Jude Law was in talks to play Mar-Vell, a Kree hero known for being the original Captain Marvel. The film will adapt the Kree-Skrull War, a famous storyline from the pages of The Avengers and Captain Marvel. The film will introduce fans to the shapeshifting Skrulls, one of the most iconic alien races in the Marvel Universe. Also appearing is Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, who could potentially ally with Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). Ben Mendelsohn is expected to play a villain.

That Hashtag Show speculates a new casting call for Captain Marvel could indicate the inclusion of Rick Jones, a character who has had a tremendous impact on the Marvel Universe ever since he caused the accident that transformed Bruce Banner into the Hulk in 1962. However, the casting call doesn't provide enough details to nail down a specific Marvel character.

[UNKNOWN MALE] Supporting Lead Male (35-59) Intelligent, but can throw a punch. Open ethnicity. Sounds like he may be tied to a well-known character.

What supports the idea that Rick Jones is in the film is the fact that the character has deep ties not only to Mar-Vell, but also to the plot. Of all the heroes involved in the Kree-Skrull War, there was perhaps no one character more instrumental in ending the war than Rick Jones. The leader of the Kree, the Supreme Intelligence, granted Rick an ability called the Destiny Force, which gave the teenager seemingly unlimited power. Rick used the Destiny Force to defeat the Skrulls.

Rick was also connected to Captain Marvel in that they were forced to share the same physical space. Only one could exist on Earth, the other had to remained trapped in the Negative Zone until they swapped places by banging Captain Marvel's wrist-bands together.

The main problem with Rick Jones portraying this character is his age. Rick is generally depicted as either a teenager or a young man. To make Rick as old as 59 seems unlikely, considering that his youth is an important part of his character.
