Warning! Potential Spoilers for Captain Marvel #18 and the Marvel Empyre event below
Among the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe, few stand stronger than Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers is not only one of the stronger Avengers, but she's one of the strongest characters, period. Carol is about to get an upgrade to her powers in the pages of Marvel's upcoming Empyre event and a new preview showcases just how tough she'll be.
In previous teases for Captain Marvel's tie-in to the upcoming cosmic event series, Carol has been shown as the Supreme Accuser. She wields her own hammer much like Ronan has, while War Machine, Spider-Woman, and Hazmat will also wield their own hammers as part of her team. Ronan's Universal Weapon is an extremely powerful hammer, as it can shoot energy blasts and can produce barriers. Considering Captain Marvel's extremely impressive power set, which includes energy manipulation and absorption, she doesn't really need further upgrades - but she'll be getting her own weapon in the arc.
In Marvel's previews this week, they took a closer look at Captain Marvel #18 by Kelly Thompson, Cory Smith, and Tamra Bonvillain. In the panels, a Kree-Skrull ship is under attack, as the crew onboard brace for their deaths as their surrender attempts fall on deaf ears. However, one of the crew notices something coming towards them and on the next big splash page, the ship suddenly explodes.
"By Hala" one of the Kree commanders says as he watches as the ship gets cut in half.
That's when Captain Marvel appears with her new hammer much to the surprise of the crew. "Sir? W-what is she doing?" one of the Kree asks, as Carol uses her energy powers to get the ship back at full power. The Kree commander seems stunned as he says "Captain Marvel... excuse me. The Accuser has just finished saving our lives, lieutenants."
It's still unclear what exactly Carol's role as the new Accuser is, but if it's to defend the Kree-Skrull Empyre, this preview shows that she's doing an excellent job. Captain Marvel saved the entire crew from the brink of death, defeated their enemy, and powered up their dying ship - all in one fell swoop. Check out previews for Captain Marvel #18 below.
