Captain Marvel: New Toy Suggests [SPOILER] Is In Movie

Possible SPOILERS for Captain Marvel

-

UPDATE: Disney has since removed any mention of Captain Marvel in the toy's description.

The product description for a Marvel Legends action figure seems to reveal that Genis-Vell will appear in Captain Marvel. In the comic books, Genis-Vell is the son of Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel. Genis-Vell was a popular hero in his own right during the 1990s.

Even though Captain Marvel will hit theaters in little more than a month, there continues to be a great deal of speculation over the characters included in the film. The names of certain characters, particularly Jude Law's character, have yet to be officially confirmed, keeping fans guessing about their identities and motives. It remains unclear if Law will be playing the Kree hero, Mar-Vell, or Mar-Vell's nemesis, Yon-Rogg, though some are suggesting that Law could somehow be playing both characters.

While Mar-Vell's inclusion is still up for debate, a second member of the Vell family is now entering the conversation. Hasbro's Captain Marvel line of Marvel Legends action figures consists of Nick Fury, Captain Marvel, Yon-Rogg, Talos, Grey Gargoyle, and Genis-Vell. Marvel Legends lines tend to be a mix of comic book and movie-inspired figures, so the choice of figures in each series is generally not an indication of what to expect from a movie. However, the official description for Genis-Vell, found on the shopDisney website, suggests that this particular character actually is in the movie. The phrase "Recreate Genis-Vell's Captain Marvel scenes with this 6" figure from the Marvel Legends Series" teases that the hero will indeed appear at some point in the film.

In the comics, Genis-Vell is the son of Mar-Vell and Elysius, an Eternal from Titan. Elysius used Mar-Vell's genetic material to give herself a son, and then artificially aged him into adulthood. Being half-Kree and half-Eternal, Genis-Vell is considerably more powerful than his father. In the early 1990s, Genis-Vell succeeded Monica Rambeau to become the third Captain Marvel, and held the mantle for several years before taking the name "Photon". He was eventually killed at the hands of Baron Zemo.

It's hard to say how Genis-Vell will be represented in Captain Marvel, especially since his father's role is still being kept under wraps. However, Genis-Vell being in the movie could add evidence to the theory that Law is playing Mar-Vell, and not Yon-Rogg. Genis-Vell could be the son of Jude Law's character, or he may simply be a soldier in the service of the Kree military.
