Captain Marvel's Alternate MCU Costume Had Ms. Marvel's Signature Scarf

Alternate costume designs for Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame feature Carol Danvers wearing Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel's signature scarf.

Alternate costume designs for Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in Avengers: Endgame give her Ms. Marvel's traditional scarf. After years of waiting, Captain Marvel finally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way in 2019. Her solo film Captain Marvel earned over $1 billion at the box office, and she quickly returned to the screen for a role in what became the highest-grossing movie of all-time.

Only two months separated these big screen appearances in real time, but it was decades in MCU canon. As a result of the significant gap, Captain Marvel's costume changes throughout Avengers: Endgame. But, the suit change and progression of the character meant that the film had plenty of freedom in designing her new look. In the end, they went with that is predominantly red with blue and gold accents.

During the development process on Avengers: Endgame though, Marvel went through several designs for Captain Marvel's look, including one that will instantly make Ms. Marvel fans start thinking about Kamala Khan. Concept art by Andy Park featured in The Art of Avengers: Endgame shows several designs for Carol incorporating her usual sash, but one, in particular, gives her a scarf that Kamala is best-known to wear.

While Carol Danvers has worn a similar scarf in the comics at times, her accessory of choice is undoubtedly the sash. Kamala Khan, on the other hand, is rarely seen without the long, red scarf around her neck. Given the incredible popularity of the character since her comic debut in 2013, it's difficult to look at this design and not immediately associate the scarf with Kamala. It's unknown if that was Park's intention with the design however.

This costume design may not have made it into Avengers: Endgame, but it could've potentially made for a nice piece of set up for Kamala's MCU introduction. Marvel Studios has since announced that she will star in a Ms. Marvel series on Disney+ before joining the movies. Since Kevin Feige has repeatedly said they want to stick to the source material to bring Kamala into the MCU, she will have to be an admirer of Captain Marvel. If Carol wore this scarf in Avengers: Endgame, then perhaps that would be the inspiration for Kamala to wear one of her own when designing her superhero costume.

Even though Avengers: Endgame didn't provide this possible source of inspiration for Kamala's eventual MCU costume, there is still a chance that it could be used in the future. That said, Kamala's scarf is not an attempt by her to loosely copy her favorite hero's suit, as it is associated with her hijab. If Captain Marvel does wear a scarf in future appearances after Avengers: Endgame though, don't be surprised if that becomes a further reason for Kamala to have this look.
