Lee Pace is teasing his Marvel Cinematic Universe return as Ronan the Accuser in 2019's Captain Marvel. The MCU as we have come to know it is approaching its end with the events in Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers 4, but before we see the aftermath of Thanos’ snap, audiences will meet Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in her solo film next year.
Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel will be Carol Danvers’ debut on the big screen as well as the MCU, and like previous Marvel solo films, audiences will follow her as she goes from Air Force pilot to one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes. It will also feature some well known faces, such as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson, and Pace’s Ronan the Accuser. While Larson took to Twitter to commemorate the end of filming last month, others cast members are already doing some subtle promotions for the movie.
Via his Twitter account, Lee Pace shared a video of himself wearing a hat with the Captain Marvel logo on the back and Danvers’ suit insignia on the front, and with the official Twitter handles of the film and the studio in the caption. Although he doesn’t say a word in the video, it hasn’t stopped fans from expressing their excitement for Pace’s return to the MCU.
Ronan the Accuser was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy as the Xandar-hating Kree radical who, after agreeing on retrieving the orb for Thanos in exchange of eradicating the Xandarians, betrays the Mad Titan and keeps the Power Stone for himself. Like many other villains in previous MCU movies, this was Ronan’s first and last appearance… until now. The Kree-Skrull war will play a large part in Captain Marvel, hence the return of Ronan and Kree mercenary Korath (Djimon Hounsou), who audiences also met in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Pace has previously shared his excitement to be back in the MCU but didn’t share any details on Ronan’s role (or the plot in general). In typical Marvel fashion, there’s a lot of secrecy around Captain Marvel, but even though neither the cast nor crew can share information, it’s fun to see them showing their support for the movie, even as subtly as Pace just did.
