Captain Marvel's early screenings crown Goose the Cat as the film's scene-stealer. Out in less than two months, the next Marvel Studios film will officially debut Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, but it looks like she will be outshined by her pet cat.

Directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, Captain Marvel will be set in 1995, predating the events of the first Iron Man film which kicked off the whole MCU in 2008. Given the timeline, the film will introduce fans to young (still two-eyed) Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) when they're still S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives. Integrating the Kree-Skrull war in the narrative, it'll also see the Kree's elite squad, Starforce, led by the still-unnamed character played by Jude Law, as well as the Skrulls spearheaded by Ben Mendelsohn's Talos. But despite some big names involved, the flick's best character, apparently, is Goose

According to Collider's Steven Weintraub, Goose was the talk of the town following early screenings for Captain Marvel. He didn't add anything specific about the role of Carol's cat in the film that made it the film's scene-stealer, but it backs up reports that Goose may not just be a normal feline, similar to his comic book counter part named Chewie. In print, it was revealed to be a actually the last of a ruthless alien species whose bodies contain interdimensional portals known as the Flerkens. And while Goose has only appeared once in a trailer so far, fans were quickly taken aback by it, especially after seeing Fury seemingly charmed by it.

In the last few years, Marvel Studios has had supporting characters who turned out to be scene stealers. The Ant-Man franchise has Michael Pena's Louis - the weirdly charming best friend of Paul Rudd's Scott Lang. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange's Cloak of Levitation had some great moments in both the Sorcerer Supremes's solo flick and Avengers: Infinity War. And finally, and perhaps the closest that Goose can be compared, to is Guardians of the Galaxy's Groot, who remains one of the most popular characters in the MCU.

That said, just because Goose is dubbed a scene-stealer, that doesn't mean that he'll necessarily be on the good side like aforementioned Marvel characters. One of the most popular rumors surrounding Captain Marvel suggests that he might be the culprit behind Fury losing an eye. Their interaction in the movie's second trailer could be setting up that plot twist. Between this new report and the fact that Goose even got his own character poster, as well as his own emoji, one thing is for sure, he'll play a pivotal part in the movie, one way or another.
