Brie Larson is officially filming Captain Marvel, and some set photos tease the start of her MCU career. It will be 11 years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began by the time Captain Marvel hits theaters. Even though it will be Marvel Studios' 21st film, it will be the first solely led female film. Not only that, but it also marks the first time a female director (albeit a co-director in this case) takes control. Both are milestones that are a long time coming.
It is no surprise when considering these facts that Captain Marvel is such a highly anticipated MCU installment. All of these factors are great on their own, but with the combined talent and potential of Carol Danvers' abilities, there's plenty of reason for excitement. One of the biggest is Marvel snagging Oscar-winner Brie Larson to play the lead role, and now we have the first glimpse of her on set.
Twitter account Brielarsoncom uncovered the first look at Brie Larson on set of Captain Marvel. Unsurprisingly, the photos do not reveal much of anything. Larson is shown walking on set, wearing a coat, sweatpants, and boots - an ensemble far from Captain Marvel's blue, red, and yellow costume. While the content of the photo isn't terribly shocking, the fact that it means Larson is starting work on the solo movie is quite exciting.

It is important to note that while these photos are for Captain Marvel, it does not signal Marvel moving fully into production on the solo film. Instead, these photos appear to be part of just a small period of shooting Marvel is doing now, prior to production reportedly kicking off in March, instead of February. Unless some further set photos make their way online in the coming days, this may be the only look fans get at Larson for a few more weeks.
The timing of these photos surfacing (from Atlanta) come right on the heels of Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) creating some confusion for their appearance in set photos. While some thought it could be for Captain Marvel, their returns appear to be for Avengers 4 instead. The mystery around them made some wonder if these were fake scenes to begin with, a theory the Russo brothers have since shot down. While no one else was spotted with Larson, her Kong: Skull Island co-star will be appearing with two eyes in Captain Marvel. Now that the tease of Larson suiting up is ramping up, hopefully it won't be too much longer before some official looks at her as Captain Marvel surface.
