Captain Marvel's current comic book costume, also seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has become her iconic look. However, before Carol Danvers wore that ensemble, she wore a skin-tight outfit while using the superhero moniker Ms. Marvel. According to a fellow Avenger, the outfit is not only way too revealing, but it's also stupid.

Captain Marvel first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 and as a hero in Ms. Marvel #1. Carol has used a handful of different codenames since her debut in 1977, including Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Binary and Warbird. During that time, she's also worn a few different costumes. Perhaps most famously, while she was Ms. Marvel, Carol sported a skin-tight costume that left little to the imagination. While the costume might have looked sexy, it was fairly impractical - just ask Moonstone, who was forced to wear the costume when she assumed the role of Ms. Marvel in the Dark Avengers.

In the Dark Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, and Rain Beredo, the series featured a group of supervillains taking the role of heroes under Norman Osborn's H.A.M.M.E.R. law enforcement organization. Bullseye becomes Hawkeye, Daken takes the role of Wolverine, Scorpion was Venom, Toxie Doxie was the new Scarlet Witch, Skaar was the new Hulk, and Moonstone took the role of Captain Marvel. In the 'Dark Reign' storyline from Avengers (2009) by Christos N. Gage, Humberto Ramos, and Edgar Delgado, Moonstone is with Tigra, keeping an eye on her, when she makes an observation about Ms. Marvel's old costume that she's sporting.

Marvel's Dark Avengers

As paparazzi approach the duo, Moonstone calls the costume "stupid... your friend Carol actually made this? Isn't she supposed to be a feminist? This thing's a paparazzi magnet. It rides up like crazy. And don't even get me started on how often I have to wax..."

Moonstone's got a point. The upkeep for wearing that costume has to be somewhat considerable. Plus, Ms. Marvel's costume has got to be uncomfortable. Thankfully, Carol Danvers would get a much sleeker, more appropriate costume when she became Captain Marvel. Her old costume was definitely a product of its time and in a modern context, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense as a superhero get-up - Moonstone knew this too well and understandably had some real questions about why Carol would wear the ensemble in the first place.
