There's no denying that Captain Marvel's new costume is a killer upgrade. But that may end up costing fans of Marvel's mightiest heroes... because that dark attitude is apparently what's going to help Carol Danvers kill an Avenger. Seriously, at least one, and then keep killing until she's stopped.

What sounded like an exciting new mission for Captain Marvel when it was announced for her November issue was, at the same time, hard to take entirely at its word. There's no way Marvel will really let Carol turn evil enough to actually kill her superhero friends, right? According to the plot synopsis for December's issue, Carol will have shown she means business already with "One Avenger dead at Captain Marvel’s hand. Who will be next? And why?" Will Carol EVER be able to come back from this turn to darkness?

Those following the series will be able to see why Captain Marvel comes to hate Earth, after the public turned their back on her over her half-Kree heritage. And with her so-called Kree 'comrade' Minerva stealing Carol's powers, she has nobody left in her corner--and nobody left to keep her from doing something she can't take back. Especially if the Avengers decide to talk her down with force. In case anyone missed it, the killer plot synopsis for November's Captain Marvel #12 leaves no question about her next battle:

CAPTAIN MARVEL VERSUS THE AVENGERS! THE LAST AVENGER! Captain Marvel has fought off alien hordes. Rescued X-Men. Punched Thanos in the face. Literally saved the world. She now faces her greatest challenge: kill the Avengers. Has one of the world's most powerful heroes gone dark? But why? And what does this mean for Carol...for the world? Life on earth will never be the same.

The next issue's plot synopsis and cover art has been released as part of Marvel's December solicitations, showing Captain Marvel (or whatever name she's going by in this new, dark costumed persona) consumed by anger or hate. Again, both understandable responses to her current predicament that she has so far managed to keep at bay. But beyond confirming she will actually kill an Avenger in November, the new text also suggest Carol is serving a new allegiance. If not Earth's, and not the Kree... then who could explain her choice to become a killer of Avengers? We'll be pondering that question along with the fans until the issues arrive, so until then be sure to check out the cover art and synopsis for Captain Marvel #13 below.
