Warning! Spoilers for Captain Marvel #27 below!

Captain Marvel is calling out the online trolls who bombarded her with unwanted comments about her appearance and strength. In Captain Marvel #27, Carol Danvers tries speed dating for the first time, which matches her up with some real weirdos - and once the men comment on her hair and appearance, she makes sure to let them know she's not impressed.

In the comics, Captain Marvel has had a rough go as of lately. She was recently teleported to a dark, dystopian future where Namor's son Ove ruled. In the future, she met a handful of future heroes including Carol Rhodes - the daughter of War Machine that was named after her. However, once she returned to the present timeline, Carol Danvers admitted that she couldn't be with James Rhodes since the Carol from the future wasn't her daughter - and them being together could prevent the future hero from existing. Down in the dumps, following her breakup with Rhodey, Carol's friends have encouraged her to go speed dating, which turns out to be a bad idea.

Captain Marvel #27 by Kelly Thompson, David Lopez, Triona Farrell, and Clayton Cowles, sees Carol encouraged by her friends, Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), Monica Rambeau (Spectrum), Jennifer Takeda (Hazmat) and her sister Lauri-Ell (the Accuser) to go out on the town. However, they trick her into going to a speed-dating event, where she goes by Susan. Almost immediately, things start off poorly, as her first date tells her she looks like Captain Marvel, but doesn't have that "terrible short hair." Meanwhile, another date condescendingly tells her he's a professional online troll.

If that wasn't enough, a third date tells her that he could work out with her and help define her muscles better. It's safe to say, Carol is not charmed by the dates. The scene is reminiscent of some of the real-life comments that Brie Larson received from Internet trolls about her appearance in Captain Marvel. Professional trolls (mostly on YouTube and Twitter) made countless posts criticizing her appearance (and haircut) while saying that she should smile more.

Ultimately, none of these dates work out for obvious reasons. Why would Captain Marvel consider giving the time of day to people who are so repulsive? The criticisms and remarks levied at her were all unnecessary and patronizing. Captain Marvel #27 shows that even the most powerful woman on the planet isn't free of pathetic trolls making unnecessary comments about her appearance. The issue serves as perfect commentary to Captain Marvel's comic and real-life avalanche of trolls.
