The first photo of Brie Larson in costume for Captain Marvel gets the fan edit treatment so it's more in line with Carol Danvers' classic comic suit. Marvel Studios is celebrating 10 years of their Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, with 2018 marking a decade since their first movie - 2008's Iron Man - debuted in theaters and kicked off the sprawling interconnected film franchise. Marvel Studios still has five films left in Phase 3 of the MCU, three of which will arrive this year: Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man & the Wasp. However one of the most anticipated upcoming Marvel films isn't set to premiere until next year, and that's Captain Marvel.

Starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel will be the first female-led MCU movie (though Ant-Man & the Wasp will mark the first time a female hero will co-lead a Marvel flick). It's also the first MCU movie to be helmed by a female co-director with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck on board. As Captain Marvel's 2019 release date gets closer, Marvel has moved forward with the film. Yesterday, we saw a first look at Larson on set as Captain Marvel prepares to start filming. New set photos today revealed Larson in costume as Captain Marvel - but not in the superhero's typical comic suit. However, fans have edited the photos to give Carol Danvers a more classic costume.

Reddit users BeautifulBasket and Eryk0201 each edited an image of Larson in costume as Captain Marvel, altering the green, silver, and black of the suit from the set photo to the character's classic red, blue, and gold color scheme. The detailing is reminiscent of Carol Danvers' comic suit, as well as the Captain Marvel concept art Marvel Studios revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last summer. Update: BossLogic has also released an edited version of the Captain Marvel set photos to give Larson's Carol Danvers a costume with the character's classic colors. Take a look:

Both edits stick to relatively the same color scheme, but the former image takes a slightly more muted approach to Captain Marvel's costume, while the later is a bit brighter and more resembles the comics. Of course, it's unclear exactly how bright or muted the colors of Larson's official costume will be since Marvel Studios hasn't officially released an image of the actress suited up. But, if we look at costumes for other heroes within the MCU, it's likely the studio will go for a more muted approach.

Captain Marvel is currently filming for a brief time before principal photography starts in earnest in March. Recently, set photos of Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson from Avengers 4 caused some confusion as to what Marvel project they were working on. Jackson is confirmed to appear as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel, but since the film will take place in the '90s, he won't have received the injury that causes him to wear an eyepatch. Captain Marvel is filming a little earlier than expected, reportedly due to tax breaks, before launching production into full swing in March.

Although we haven't seen Larson in Captain Marvel's official suit for the film yet, it's possible that once principal photography truly begins, we'll get a look at her in costume through set photos. Or, since these photos of Larson from the set leaked so soon after filming began, it's also possible Marvel gets out ahead and releases and official first look at the costume. Either way, we'll likely get a chance to see Larson suited up as Captain Marvel sometime in the next few months.
