Star Brie Larson has been spotted wearing a costume in new Captain Marvel set photos. Captain Marvel will serve as the first solo female superhero film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it arrives in 2019, nearly eleven years after the release of the first Iron Man movie. In addition to serving as Marvel Studios' first solo female superhero vehicle, Captain Marvel will also feature Marvel's first female (co) director, Anna Boden, who will work alongside Ryan Fleck from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Meg LeFauve, and Nicole Perlman.
Captain Marvel tells the story of Carol Danvers, a U.S. Air Force pilot who gains powers after an accident involving Kree alien technology. She was originally known in the comics as Ms Marvel, before she took up the mantle of Captain. To date, she has served as a member and/or leader of the Avengers, S.W.O.R.D., the Ultimates, Alpha Flight, and even the Guardians of the Galaxy, in comic book form.
Page Six has revealed the first photos of Larson on the Captain Marvel movie set wearing... some costume. In the comics, Captain Marvel is best known for her red and blue suit with the yellow Hala Star. The star can be seen here, but the suit she is wearing is teal and appears to look more like the suit worn by Mahr Vehl (a kree alien superhero) from the Ultimates comics. That suggests Larson is wearing a Kree uniform and not her proper supersuit in the photos featured below.

All eyes have been on the MCU lately, after Maria Hill and Nick Fury actors Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson were spotted around Marvel Studios' film sets in Atlanta despite the fact that Avengers 4 has already wrapped production. Fans have been speculating about exactly which MCU movie Smulders and Jackson were filming scenes for, or if these images are actually fake Avengers 4 set photos meant to throw people off the scent. For their part, directors Anthony and Joe Russo are now claiming that they are "too tired" to film fake Avengers 4 scenes, although that still leaves what exactly Smulders and Jackson were filming in Atlanta unexplained.
Larson, for her part, is definitely filming scenes for her solo Marvel film in the photos above, albeit in California. Captain Marvel takes place in the 1990s, prior to the events of Iron Man and everything that has happened in the MCU since then. (The fact that she's reading a newspaper in one of the images above rather than looking at a smartphone is a pretty big giveaway.) However, none of the other confirmed cast members for Captain Marvel have been spotted on location just yet.
Among those set to join Larson in Captain Marvel are Jude Law as the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell, Ben Mendelsohn in a villainous role, and Dewanda Wise. We will be sure and let you know when photos of them on the film's set have made their way online.
