Brie Larson has shared that she also auditioned for Iron Man 2 and Thor. It's only been a year and a half since the actress debuted as the MCU's Captain Marvel in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's 2019 film. Had things panned out differently, however, she might have already been in the franchise back in Phase 1.

Marvel officially announced Larson would be the MCU's Carol Danvers at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017. By that time, rumors had been persistent about her joining the franchise and people were excited as she was fairly fresh from winning Best Actress at the 88th Academy Awards for her role in Room. Fast-forward to 2019, Captain Marvel became a billion-dollar earner for Marvel Studios, with Larson's next outing as the hero just several weeks away in Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Endgame. Now, as everyone waits for Phase 4 to kick off, Larson reminisces on her career, revealing the parts she previously auditioned for but didn't get.

The actress hosts a mini-series on her official YouTube channel where she reveals all the projects she auditioned for over the years. In her latest video, Larson quickly listed several opportunities she didn't get—including Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 from 2010 and Kenneth Branagh's Thor which released the year after. She didn't reveal which specific roles she auditioned for, but Larson joining the MCU years earlier than she actually did is an interesting idea to ponder.

While Larson didn't give a lot of information regarding which role she auditioned for, there are only a few major female characters in both movies. For Iron Man 2, there's obviously Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, which went to Scarlett Johansson. Larson didn't say why she didn't get the job, but it's possible that she was deemed too young for the role, similar to what happened to her when she tried out for The Big Bang Theory. As for Thor, there's Jane Foster — a role that went to Natalie Portman. Like Black Widow, Larson may have been too young for the part of Chris Hemsworth's brainy love interest. However, there's also Darcy Lewis, who was eventually played by Kat Dennings, who's a bit younger.

Ultimately, everything turned out for the best as Brie Larson entered the MCU at the right time in her career. As she revealed in the same video, Marvel Studios sought her a few times for Carol Danvers before she agreed to do it. The confidence she exudes now is essential in effectively bringing a character like Captain Marvel to life. In hindsight, it was good that she wasn't cast for either Iron Man 2 or ThorMoving forward, the actress is slated to reprise her heroic role in Captain Marvel 2 and in future Avengers movies.
