Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision Episode 7

Teyonah Parris teased in a recent interview that Captain Marvel 2 will dive deeper into the relationship between her character Monica Rambeau and Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. Parris currently stars in WandaVision as SWORD agent Monica Rambeau, daughter of Carol Danver's best friend, Maria Rambeau. After the 2019 film Captain Marvel, which took place in the mid-90s, fans were left to speculate how the relationship between the young Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers developed through all the events of the decades since, which, as we recently learned, may not have left off on the right foot.

When we last saw the two interact in Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau was 11-years old and appeared to have a close connection to her "Auntie" Carol; However, the now grown-up SWORD operative seems to have some unresolved issues with the superhero. WandaVision briefly touched on the status of the two characters in episode 5, "On A Very Special Episode..." when Agent Jimmy Woo and Dr. Darcy Lewis responded to Monica's statement that Wanda came the closest to defeating Thanos on her own, arguing that Captain Marvel rivals Wanda Maximoff's strength. Monica then interrupted and said, "We are not talking about her. We're talking about Wanda."

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Parris was asked what the drama is all about between Monica and Carol Danvers, referencing the brief mention of Captain Marvel in WandaVision. Her response confirms that fans will be able to see for themselves in the upcoming Captain Marvel installment.

"Monica will be in Captain Marvel 2 with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, so that gives us space to further explore what might be happening there."

Brie Larson Wearing Her Captain Marvel Armor MCU

In addition to her relationship with Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau herself has a curious future within the MCU. Comic book readers have been curious about the character since her introduction in Captain Marvel, as the original Monica Rambeau was a superhero herself. In WandaVision, episode 7, "Breaking The Fourth Wall," longtime comic book fans were introduced to the Monica they have been waiting to meet when her reentry into Westview gave her superhero abilities. A clashing hero plotline could be the situation that Parris hints will explore in the upcoming installment.

It is also very possible that Monica and Carol's strained relationship has to do with the death of Monica's mother, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). As was revealed in episode 4 of WandaVision, the beloved Captain Marvel character Maria Rambeau passed away from cancer two years after Thanos snapped half of the galaxy, including Monica, into oblivion. As far as we know, Carol was nowhere to be found while Maria battled the disease, and perhaps Monica or even Maria herself wished she were around to help. Whatever the reason is for the drama, fans will have to wait until the release of Captain Marvel 2 to watch the events of their reunion unfold.
