The official title for Captain Marvel 2 has been announced as The Marvels. The MCU is moving full steam ahead with Phase 4 of the beloved franchise, and although all of what it's released in 2021 so far have been streaming options, it's the studio's theatrical slate that has fans clamoring for more. Marvel will release four movies this year, beginning with Black Widow this July. 2022 will be just as packed for the studio, with the MCU getting another four new entries on the theatrical side.

One of those is the highly anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel, released in 2019. Brie Larson will be reprising her role as Carol Danvers after briefly appearing in Avengers: Endgame, with Nia DaCosta (Candyman) helming the film. Carol's world is about to get a whole lot bigger in the upcoming sequel - she will be joined by Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, introduced in WandaVision, and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, set to be debut in her own Disney+ show later this year.

Little else is known about the plot of the sequel, including just how Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau will factor into it, but now Marvel has revealed a little more information. In a new trailer for their upcoming theatrical releases, the studio announced that The Marvels is the official title of the film. The official logo was also revealed, which can be seen above.

While there's not much to be gleaned from the title in terms of plot, it certainly seems to hint at a family dynamic that will be present in the film. This could allude to Monica and Carol's now complicated relationship, as it was revealed in WandaVision that they may not be as close as they were when Monica was a child. During that series' post-credits scene, Monica is told by a Skrull that someone is waiting for her up in space and while they give no inkling as to who it could be, it certainly seems as if "Auntie Carol" and Monica have some unfinished business.

The title also hints at a new addition to the family: Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel. The show will have some sort of connection to The Marveland may give fans an idea of how Kamala and Carol will come to meet, setting the trio up for a cosmic adventure. With the sequel set to start filming in May, the studio may begin revealing more information about The Marvels, including who else could be joining the cast. Until then, fans will have to wait patiently for Ms. Marvel to get an idea of what's in store for this highly anticipated sequel.
