A new production listing reveals Marvel's Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson starts shooting in London and Los Angeles on May 31. The sequel will be directed by the Candyman reboot's 31-year-old director Nia DaCosta. Captain Marvel directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden publicly supported DaCosta taking over the director's chair from them, and it seems as if things are moving forward swiftly on the sequel. Larson will of course return, alongside Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.

Captain Marvel 2 will be set in the present day, as opposed to the 1990s setting of the original movie, and will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, which saw Captain Marvel arriving at the last minute to save the day, complete with a fancy new haircut. With a script from Megan McDonnell, one of WandaVision's writers, the hope is that Captain Marvel 2 will be an improvement on the original, integrating Carol Danvers properly into the present-day Marvel Cinematic Universe as arguably the most powerful Avenger. With a release date of November 11, 2022, Captain Marvel 2 is already deep into pre-production, and now a filming start date has seemingly been revealed.

According to a listing on Production ListCaptain Marvel 2 will start filming in just over two months. The new listing sets a filming start date of May 31, and lists London and Los Angeles as the production locations. If accurate, this means that Larson and the rest of the team will be busy getting in shape for the movie, and working on the final tweaks to the script and tone of the movie. It also hints that production will run through the summer into the fall, and perhaps into winter. That also gives Captain Marvel 2 around a year for post-production, which is standard for a big-budget CGI-heavy superhero blockbuster.

Typical of Marvel productions, Captain Marvel 2 is covered in a veil of secrecy. There is very little known about the plot, though Parris has said it will explore Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers' relationship. Besides that, though, information is thin on the ground, and while Zawe Ashton has been confirmed to play the villain, just who she is playing remains a mystery. Speculation is that she might not be the main villain, though, if the sequel pulls the same trick that Captain Marvel did with its antagonists.

For now, though, what is certain is that Captain Marvel 2 is close to shooting. With Brie Larson being quite prolific and communicative with fans via her YouTube channel, there might be more specific details on the shoot via the star, though audiences may end up being left in the dark if Marvel follows its usual policy of secrecy.
