Carol Danvers can be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most powerful hero again thanks to Captain Marvel 2 – here’s how. In over 10 years, the MCU has brought a lot of heroes from Marvel Comics to the big screen, starting with Iron Man in 2008. Tony Stark’s first solo movie marked the beginning of an extensive connected universe that has explored various places not only on Earth but other planets and realms as well. The MCU is full of powerful superheroes with a variety of abilities, and one of its most powerful characters is Carol Danvers.

Carol’s arrival was teased in the mid-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, where Fury managed to send her a message right before he vanished following Thanos’ snap. Before she could lend a hand to the surviving heroes of the MCU, her first solo movie, Captain Marvel, took viewers back to the 1990s to tell her origin story, as well as how she met Nick Fury. Upon her arrival at the MCU, Carol Danvers was considered the most powerful hero, and even though that changed later (and not because she lost her powers or anything), she can regain that title in her next solo adventure.

A couple of months after the release of Avengers: Endgame, Kevin Feige revealed during a Q&A with New York Film Academy that Scarlet Witch is the most powerful hero in the MCU, even though he had previously said it was Captain Marvel. He supported his answer by explaining that, in Avengers: Endgame, Scarlet Witch is the one who came really close to killing Thanos, and he had previously shared that she could defeat Thanos one-on-one. With the MCU still expanding and with the arrival of characters like the Eternals, along with the return of heroes like Doctor Strange, the most powerful character in the MCU will keep changing, but Carol can regain the title in Captain Marvel 2 if she's given some of the powers she has in the comics and that the MCU hasn’t explored yet.

Captain Marvel

The MCU changed Captain Marvel’s origin story and linked her powers to the Tesseract instead of the Kree. Now, the powers of the Space Stone, the Infinity Stone kept in the Tesseract, have been retconned a couple of times in the MCU, and will continue to change as Loki will be using it to travel through time in his Disney+ series, Loki. Through this, the MCU could give Carol flash precognition, best known as her “seventh sense”. This gave her flashes of impending doom, which allowed her to anticipate the moves of her opponents and intervene in potential catastrophes, though these flashes happened randomly, so it’s an unreliable power. With the Space Stone being linked to time-and-space as it is, the “seventh sense” could be a dormant power that will be triggered in Captain Marvel 2, thus helping Carol become the MCU’s most powerful hero again.

Along with the powers she has already displayed (and which could grow stronger), the addition of the “seventh sense” would put Carol Danvers above Scarlet Witch, as having brief looks at the catastrophes about to happen would definitely give her the upper hand. It’s also important to remember that Captain Marvel has only had one full movie to display her powers, and it was set decades before the present timeline in the MCU. She was also absent for most of Avengers: Endgame, so it’s unknown how much she has progressed when it comes to her powers and if there are any new abilities that haven’t been shown on-screen yet. By regaining her title of most powerful hero thanks to Captain Marvel 2, the MCU would be setting her up as the leader of the new Avengers team, as many fans have theorized and hope will happen.
