Captain Marvel star Brie Larson says she's "really excited" that the character can be a symbol of strength for fans around the world. Larson's casting in the role was announced at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con after months of rumors had linked her to Captain Marvel. Shot in 2018 and released in 2019 Captain Marvel was the first solo female-led movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg appeared alongside her, de-aged as the movie was set in the 1990s, with Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau), Ben Mendelsohn (Talos), Jude Law (Yon-Rogg), and Annette Bening (Dr. Wendy Lawson) rounding out the cast.

Larson also appeared as the character in Avengers: Endgame and will reprise the role in Captain Marvel 2, due for release in November 2022. In January this year, Larson shared the touching reason she wanted to play Captain Marvel after shying away from blockbusters for the early part of her career, saying it was because of what the character represents. Calling her a "symbol" that "different kinds of people" respond to, Larson made it clear she wants the character to belong to everyone. Now, she's reiterated that belief, explaining more about her excitement to play the character.

Speaking in the latest video on her personal YouTube channel, Larson took questions from fans as part of a celebration marking the two-year anniversary of Captain Marvel's release. Saying she's "grown so much," Larson talks about how excited she is for fans to use Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel as a symbol of strength to get through tough times. The actress also responds to a fan question about Captain Marvel 2, unsurprisingly saying that she can't reveal anything about the sequel at this point. You can read her full comments below:

I’ve changed so much, I’ve grown so much, and so I’m really excited to see what I can bring to Carol and the Captain Marvel sequel with who I am now. To see how all of you have embraced Carol, and taken her on, and used her as a symbol for whatever it is. If there’s difficulties that are going on in your life, moments of strength that you need that you can pull from this character and find something, whether it’s a line from the film or from the comics. That has been absolutely remarkable and incredible, and I’m excited to keep expanding on that. In terms of the sequel, one of the things I get asked a lot — a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot — is if there’s anything I can tell you about the sequel. And the thing I can tell you is that: I can’t tell you anything!

Larson's comments are endearing, and she's clearly passionate about playing Captain Marvel and making her a symbol for fans to look up to. That will continue in the sequel, which Larson typically is staying secretive about. This time around, she'll be appearing alongside Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, all grown up and imbued with superpowers thanks to the events of WandaVision. Captain Marvel 2 will also feature Zawe Ashton as a new MCU villain, teasing a fascinating new dynamic for Larson to explore.

But one thing that won't change is Larson's approach to the role. She's made it clear that for her Captain Marvel is a role model, giving fans a symbol of strength to look up to, and she's bringing that energy to the sequel too. Filming on the sequel will begin in the coming months, led by an all-female creative team, consisting of screenwriter Megan McDonnell and Director Nia DaCosta.
