The MCU has plenty of hilarious heroes who manage to both fight enemies and crack jokes while they're at it. Captain America isn't the first superhero many fans think of when someone says 'funny'. His no-nonsense, clean-cut personality alienated him to some members of the audience who thought the good old Captain was boring.

But that couldn't be further from the truth. Steve Rogers might not be a jokester but his films contain a lot of hilarious scenes. But it's not all laughter and jokes. Captain America has been through a lot, and as a result, some moments in his life have been truly tragic.

Funniest: Steve Almost Lifts Thor's Hammer (And Later Lifts It For Real)

Steve Rogers trying to lift Mjolnir in Avengers Age of Ultron

Steve first almost lifted Thor's hammer Mjolnir during a party in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). The fear in Thor's face when Steve nudged the hammer made the scene hilarious.

A few years later, Captain America lifted Mjolnir for real to protect Thor against Thanos. Thor's reaction once again made the long-anticipated moment hilarious when he cried out in triumph: "I knew it!"

Saddest: Steve Realizes He Slept For Decades

The ending of Captain America The First Avenger

In his first solo film's finale, Steve runs away from the S.H.I.E.L.D. However, Nick Fury catches up with him and he reveals to the stunned supersoldier that he slept for almost 70 years.

One of Steve's first thoughts is Peggy and the anguish is clear in his face when he realized that not only did he miss their date but Peggy is also most likely dead by now (she isn't but Steve doesn't know that just yet).

Funniest: Steve Meets Thor Again (And His Friends)

Steve Rogers talking to Groot in Avegners: Infinity War.

Even though it would be easy to believe that Captain America is no fun, he does have a sense of humor and is willing to use it even in the middle of a battle. Once Thor arrives to help the team in Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the two superheroes greet each other like old friends and joke around a bit.

Steve notices Thor's new hairstyle and Thor jokily accuses Steve of copying his beard. To top it all off, Thor then introduces Groot as his "friend, the tree", and Steve says hi to Groot like seeing a talking tree is no big deal to him at all.

Saddest: Steve Looks At His Friends' Files

In the scene, Steve is going through the files of his old friends from the war. He's sitting in a quiet dark room, all alone, as he finds out that most of his friends are dead, with the exception of Peggy Carter who's retired.

Funniest: Steve Fools Hydra

Steve Rogers aka Captain America whispers "Hail Hydra" to Sitwell in Avengers: Endgame

In one of the most brilliant twists in Avengers: Endgame (2019), Steve easily fools Hydra by making Sitwell believe he's a member of the secret organization as well.

That allows him to avoid a fight and instead, the Hydra members just let Steve walk out of the elevator with the scepter, even though that wasn't their original plan. Fans in theaters roared when they saw the scene, and it's understandable since it's not only fun but also draws inspiration from the comics.

Saddest: Bucky Falls To His Death

bucky and steve the first avenger

Steve doesn't have that many close friends, especially in the 1940s. So when he's unable to save Bucky who falls to his death (or so Steve presumes) from the train, Steve blames himself.

He's depressed over losing his best friend who was like a brother to him. That explains his obsession over finding Bucky and helping him in the 21st century once Steve learns Bucky is still alive.

Funniest: Steve's Training Sequence

Yet Steve prevails and proves that he's not only brave, willing to sacrifice his life, but also smart. For example, one hilarious moment happens when the rest of the soldiers fail to get the flag down from the pole when they try to climb the pole but fall. Steve then calmly walks in, unscrews a few screws, the pole falls down and he gets the flag.

Saddest: Steve Sees Old Peggy Again

Peggy Carter lays in bed

Peggy's funeral could also be here but the scene in which Steve visits her is even more emotional. It brings both Steve and Peggy to tears. At first, the conversation is peaceful, albeit filled with meaning.

It all changes when Peggy forgets Steve is there, probably due to Alzheimer's. When she notices him again, her eyes fill with tears and she says it's been so long.

Funniest: Steve Talks To Women

Natasha and Steve Kiss in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America might be almost unstoppable when it comes to fighting his enemies. However, he's much more awkward in dealing with women which makes him relatable.

Steve stutters, mumbles, and makes a fool of himself in front of women he likes, especially Peggy. And when Natasha kisses him all of a sudden, his reaction is drily funny.

Saddest: Steve Goes Down With The Plane

Captain America flying the plane into the ice

When Steve realizes that he won't make it and Peggy comes to the same realization, an emotional scene follows. Peggy is in tears while she tries to persuade Steve to come back, to change his mind.

They make a deal to go dancing later but neither has any idea that it won't happen. Their conversation cuts off all of a sudden and Peggy collapses in tears while Steve plunges into the water.
