Warning: contains spoilers for Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #10!A popular ally to Captain America is facing the latest evolution in her character as Marvel teases a new look for Sharon Carter. This unveiling comes off of the heels of this week's Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #10 release. Cap and Sharon's more recent adventures have seen the two assemble a qualified team of soldiers (including Roger Aubrey, aka the Destroyer) to help stop A.I.M's latest nefarious acts against the world. Their efforts result in a fallen comrade during the issue.

Marvel has now unveiled a new design for Sharon Carter's character model, designed by Carmen Carnero, expected to debut at some point soon in the ongoing Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty series from Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and of course the aforementioned Carnero. As seen below, the suit is entirely white with occasional orange patterns. Most noticeably, the suit comes with a white and orange patterned skull that can be adjusted to show Sharon's face. The look itself is said to reflect an upcoming arc for Sharon Carter meant to reflect recent events in her life, not long after the hero was reborn with new powers.

In Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #10, the issue ends with Sharon watching on in horror as Destroyer sacrifices himself to save her. Aubrey finds himself completely obliterated by the new M.O.D.O.C while shielding Sharon from the villain's blast. "The profound impact this event has on her is the latest step in the bold journey the creative team has in store for one of Marvel’s most iconic espionage agents," says Marvel's press release. It's also worth noting that prior to the tragedy, Sharon and her team were forced to relive their greatest failures in their heads in a psychic time loop, courtesy of M.O.D.O.C's control over them.

Sharon's Skull Costume Reflects Her New Arc

Sharon Carter has long been someone reeling from some kind of guilt, in search of redemption. After all, this is the same character who was once mind-controlled into killing Steve Rogers at the conclusion of Marvel's Civil War, later shooting his adopted son after mistaking the child for a villain. Destroyer dying while protecting her only adds to the things that Sharon feels guilty about in her life and something else to blame herself about. However, it's notable that Sharon's new costume uses a skull motif, which is associated with many of Captain America's enemies, including Red Skull, Crossbones, Taskmaster, and Hydra. It's possible Sharon will be breaking bad - or perhaps going undercover as a villain - in response to this latest trauma.

Sharon's guilt is about to manifest itself in a new costume and, likely, an entirely new identity for Sharon Carter within the coming issues, just in time for the Captain America: Cold War crossover event. Whatever the future holds for Sharon Carter, the latest evolution in her character has the potential to change the scope and trajectory of her life forever. Stay tuned for how Marvel continues to progress Sharon Carter's character in future issues for Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty.
