Warning! Spoilers to King in Black: Thunderbolts #1 below!

In Captain America: Winter Soldier, Cap and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop a hijacking of the Lemurian Star, taking out the terrorists before confronting their leader, the infamous mercenary and criminal called Batroc. This wanted criminal and former soldier held his own against Steve Rogers, something his comic book counterpart Batroc the Leaper has done repeatedly, even with other Captain Americas. Although he is sometimes portrayed inhabiting extreme French stereotypes, the famous mercenary and criminal with a penchant for savate recently appeared in King in Black event where he received a serious power upgrade to help in his team's battle with the symbiote god Knull and his forces.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Tales of Suspense #75 (1968) as a former member of the French Foreign Legion,  now a mercenary known for his unparalleled mastery of the savate fighting style. Although not having any superpowers, Batroc's training gave him near-superhuman acrobatics abilities and enough martial arts training to fight his persistent foe Captain America, who already knew of his reputation prior to their first meeting. Although he would cross paths and blows with other Marvel heroes, Captain America is special to Batroc, facing him alone or alongside other villains in his self-titled "Batroc's Brigade." Although surviving a near-death experience or two, Batroc re-appears whenever the money is too good to pass up, seen in battle with his mixed French accent, signature purple and orange costume, and the occasional mustache twirl.

In King in Black: Thunderbolts #1 by Matthew Rosenberg and Juan Ferreyra, Batroc is among a group of heroes forced by Wilson Fisk to be the latest iteration of the Thunderbolts. Although promised money for their cooperation, the criminals are given little to no choice as they walk through a symbiote-overrun New York with no masks and a mission to protect teammate Star so they can rendezvous with someone who can supposedly help end the latest alien invasion. When teammate Ampere is killed, his signature electric gauntlets and power amplifiers are removed from his body and distributed amongst the surviving Thunderbolts, Batroc receiving a pair of leg gauntlets. When they are discovered and pursued by a group of Knull's symbiotes, Batroc uses his new power upgrade to hold the creatures off while the Thunderbolts head to the waterfront. Although originally left to sacrifice himself, Batroc's new tech amplifies his signature leaping over the water to join his team on their commandeered boat as they head to Ravencroft Institute.

In Captain America: Winter Soldier, Batroc made his MCU debut portrayed by Georges St-Pierre where his background and later career as a mercenary and criminal remained intact minus any tongue-in-cheek comic relief. Known for causing maximum casualties during his missions, Batroc was secretly hired by Nick Fury to hijack the Lemurian Star as an excuse for SHIELD operatives to respond and uncover classified information about Project: Insight. Surprised yet not unprepared for Captain America's appearance, Batroc hit the Avenger with a barrage of kicks and punches, challenging him to eventually fight without the use of his signature shield. When Steve Rogers complied and still defeated him, Batroc managed to escape, fleeing to a safehouse where he was discovered and arrested by SHIELD agents in the Algiers.

Although he was a formidable opponent, Batroc has yet to make an appearance in another MCU movie although its been confirmed Batroc'll be leaping into action once again in The Falcon and Winter Soldier series. Meanwhile, his comic book counterpart finds himself in a bad situation, forced to work alongside other criminals in a mission through a New York hell, where he gets an upgrade simply because they don't want any power to go wasted. Although the Thunderbolts accomplish their mission, the King in Black alone is enough to twirl Batroc's mustache once or twice.
