Captain America's New Shield Revealed In Infinity War Toy

Captain America's first shield in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Captain America's (Chris Evans) new Wakandan shield from Avengers: Infinity War has been revealed in toy form. Forced to give up his identity, as well as his iconic weapon of choice, Steve Rogers will emerge from hiding after the events of Captain America: Civil War, in order to partake in the fight against the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Infinity War. We've already seen him sporting a new look, a darker fight suit coupled with a fully bearded face, in the film. However, he will also be wielding a shield in battle yet again - albeit, one with a different design.

Pretty much all eyes are on Black Panther at the moment (as far as Marvel Cinematic Universe fans go), but that will change just a couple months after the King of Wakanda makes his solo movie debut, when Marvel Studios unrolls its biggest undertaking yet in Infinity War. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the massive ensemble flick unites all pockets of the MCU in one film, as most every single hero in the franchise comes together to help prevent Thanos from "balancing the universe". Our heroes' first order of business is to make sure that the supervillain and his henchmen, the Black Order, don't get their hands on all (or ideally any) of the magical Infinity Stones that he's been chasing for years (and several MCU movies) now.

Wakanda seems to be treating Cap well in Infinity War, judging by the gauntlets that he's shown wearing in the Infinity War trailer. He will also be getting a new shield courtesy of T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and his people. As seen in these photos of the Infinity War-related Marvel Legends Action Figures (images that were posted on Twitter by Alfred Murphy), the super soldier's set includes a nifty-looking escutcheon reminiscent of the one he used way back in Captain America: The First Avengers - only this time, its been infused with Wakandan elements.

Given Wakanda's advanced technology, it's certainly plausible that Cap's new shield will have some as-yet unrevealed special features to help further weaponize it during Infinity War. It's safe to assume that Steve will eventually get his real shield back at some point in either Infinity War or Avengers 4, but this new version will do the work for now, especially considering that there's a very good chance that it too has been constructed out of vibranium.

Aside from Cap's replacement shield, these toys also offer an early look at Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spider-Man's (Tom Holland) new armor, both of which look different from those in previously-released Infinity War merchandise. Tony's armor is lacking the propulsors that were prominently featured in the previously-unveiled Infinity War T-shirt artwork and LEGO set. Peter's costume is likewise missing the three mechanical arms (also known as waldoes) that the comic book version of the Iron-Spider suit posses. Of course, it's quite possible that the toys are just simplified versions of the armor that Tony and Peter wear in the actual Infinity War movie.

While Cap has been spotted wearing his original costume in some of the Avengers 4 set photos that have been leaked online, his classic shield is nowhere to be found in those images. As cool as Steve's new Wakandan shield looks, here's to hoping he also gets to wield his iconic red, white, and blue weapon again before the fourth Avengers movie - and thus, Phase 3 of the MCU - draws to a close.
