A fan-made Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness poster turns Chris Evans' Captain America into the leader of Hydra. The Sam Raimi directed sequel will see the return of Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange with Elizabeth Olsen co-starring as Scarlet Witch. There are many fan theories on how the Doctor Strange sequel will tie into WandaVision and also Marvel's Spider-Man 3, with it being confirmed that the Sorcerer Supreme is making an appearance in Tom Holland's film. Other than that, little is known about the plot of the sequel.

While Cumberbatch and Olsen continue to be key players in the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, Evans might soon be returning to the franchise as well. Evans officially retired as Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame, with most fans agreeing that the Russo Brothers gave the character a perfect send-off. A few weeks ago however, it was reported that Evans is nearing a deal to return to the MCU as Cap, possibly in two upcoming projects. Fans have gone crazy with different fan theories on how Evans will return as Captain America, with one artist giving him a dark twist.

Digital artist Ultraraw26 has imagined Evans as a villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by turning him into a Hyrda agent. The artist explains that he thinks Evans' tenure as Steve Rogers is over in the main MCU timeline but that the actor could easily return as Captain Hydra. Ultraraw26's full post can be seen below:

While Evans appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is purely a fan theory at this point, it could actually happen. With the sequel obviously delving into a Multiverse storyline, Raimi's film could include any living or dead character from the MCU and even characters from non-MCU Marvel movies. There have been several rumors that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield might return as Spider-Man in either Spider-Man 3 or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but this too is still unconfirmed. In short, anything is possible in Doctor Strange's next outing.

Fans were no doubt excited to hear of Evans' return, but Marvel needs to be careful on how they bring him back to avoid fan backlash. As mentioned above, Steve returning to the past to live out his days with Peggy was considered a perfect conclusion to Captain America's storyline, and bringing back Evans as an old Captain America may not go over well with movie-goers. That being said, the Multiverse is a perfect way to bring back Evans as a different version of the character or even as the leader of Hyrda. This version of Steve Rogers may or may not end up appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but this storyline could also play out in the animated What If...? series on Disney+. Either way, it could be an exciting way to get Evans back in the MCU.
