It may be hard to believe, but Marvel Studios is getting ready to launch Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will begin in May 2016 when Captain America: Civil War is released. That project is one of the more anticipated on the studio's slate, given its famous comic book source material and all-star cast that essentially makes it more The Avengers 2.5 than a solo outing for Steve Rogers.
Marvel was on hand at the recent 2015 D23 expo, where the company debuted some footage from Civil War, but it was never released to the public. While that no doubt has been frustrating for those who couldn't be in attendance for the panel, the fact that the film has now finished production is a sign of hope that a teaser trailer could come in the near future.
Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito announced on his Twitter page that directors Joe and Anthony Russo have wrapped principal photography, offering his compliments to all who worked hard on the movie:
#CaptainAmericaCivilWar wrapped principle photography today. Congratulations to the Russo brothers and the entire cast and crew.

It's exciting to hear that the next instalment in the MCU has finished filming, but what fans are really going to want to know is what this means for an official trailer. Especially after the D23 footage went over well with the crowd thanks to its action beats and character moments, the demand to see something from Captain America 3 has only grown. That said, it may be some time before a teaser is released. We're still 9 months out from the film's premiere, so Disney is in no rush to kick off marketing - particularly with a little indie film called Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens to promote right now.
As moviegoers anxiously wait for a preview of Civil War, they'll have to make do with some new set photos that were snapped (hat tip CBM). They're not exactly the most revealing pictures in the world, and the vantage point is so far away it's hard to tell what exactly is going on, but they'll get the attention of fans eager to check out their favorite superheroes nonetheless.
With characters like Captain America, Ant-Man, Iron Man, and Black Widow (among others) all dressed in their costumes in front of large green screens, it would seem that some actions sequences were being filmed. Unfortunately, there are no details in the photos to indicate what exactly is taking place. A distinct possibility is that these pictures are from a scene where the two sides of the titular conflict come to blows, since there are numerous heroes all present on the location, but that's just guessing on our part.
After Captain America: The Winter Soldier achieved great success both critically and commercially (ranking among Marvel's best), expectations are sky high for Civil War. It'll be a tough task for the Russo brothers to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but all the pieces are in place for a thrilling and compelling Marvel film that could set the tone for a great Phase 3. And since the Russos are also being tasked with bringing this whole thing home in The Avengers: Infinity War, the pressure is truly on for them to achieve just that.
