Sharon Carter actress, Emily VanCamp, admits that even she thought the kiss with Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War went too far. Agent 13 returned to the MCU after five years of resurrecting discussions about that controversial moment in the Joe and Anthony Russo film from 2016. As such, VanCamp herself has been asked about the scene while during press for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and in her latest interview, she opens up about the experience of filming that scene.

Introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative working for Nick Fury, she eventually joined the government after the organization fell when it was revealed that it was infiltrated by HYDRA. She became a member of the CIA, which effectively involved her in the bombing of the U.N. Assembly staged by Zemo and killed Wakanda's King T'Chaka in Civil War. Despite her official allegiance to the government, she aided Team Cap in their escape after they refused to sign the Sokovia Accords, effectively making her an enemy of the state. But before she went into hiding, she shared a brief kiss with Steve, which resulted in a lot of raised eyebrows since she's the grand-niece of Peggy Carter.

Speaking with Collider on the heels of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, VanCamp was asked about that particular Civil War moment and she candidly revealed that even she was dubious about doing the kiss. Since she really didn't know where the plot point was heading, everyone just did their best to service the laid-out story. Read what VanCamp said about the kiss below:

You sort of trust and hope that it all makes sense in the end. I did have a few moments where I wondered, ‘Are we going too far with this? Should this be more of an amicable, friendly moment?’ I didn't really know. I don't think any of us really knew. It’s hard to answer because I don't think it's anyone's fault that it didn't totally work in terms of the story. I don't think anyone knew where that was headed or what we were going to do with that moment. It was a sweet moment as it was. It's a hard one to answer because you don't want to sort of say, ‘Well, it was a terrible moment and it didn't make any sense,’ because everyone's just kind of doing the best they can to service the story in that moment, really. And so, yeah, we were all just, I think, doing the best that we could and something great came out of it, which was this dynamic between Sam and Bucky in the car! And so something great did come of it, ultimately. And here we have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Sharon carter power broker twist failed Peggy carter legacy

Now, Sharon is back in the MCU after years of hiding following the fallout from her decision to side with Team Cap in Civil War. But instead of the ally that she once was, she underwent a significant transformation to be the villain, Power Broker. This was the big twist in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and while the show didn't expound on what caused the change in her, the general notion is it's because she needed to learn to fend for herself after she was essentially abandoned. She made a living selling high art in the black market in Madripoor, but after she's pardoned, she's now back in the U.S., although with no plans of stopping her illegal operations.

Despite her return to the MCU, Sharon and Steve's kiss in Captain America: Civil War was never brought up. With the former Captain America now in the past with Peggy, chances of further exploring this loose plot are very slim to none. If anything, it might even be something that Marvel Studios no longer wants to mention.
