Chris Evans would have loved to play Spider-Man, but the costume might've been a deal breaker. Evans is no stranger to the world of superhero films, as many people know. His first stint as a superhero  came in the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films, where he played Johnny Storm, AKA the Human Torch. Those movies weren't exceptionally well-received, but Evans put on a good performance. Later, he was offered the part he is now best known for: Captain America. Evans was initially wary about taking the role, but he was later convinced by his mother. He went on to appear in numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe films, with his final one being last year's Avengers: Endgame.

Spider-Man, meanwhile, wasn't included in the MCU at the very start due to Sony owning the rights to the character. However, when the studio was unable to pull off its grand plans for the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, it made a deal with Marvel that allowed Spidey to appear in the MCU. Tom Holland was cast in the role, and he made his debut in Evans' own Captain America: Civil WarWhile Spider-Man was on Iron Man's side during the titular fight, the film acknowledged his New York connection with Cap in a quick, but sweet moment.

Evans' time in the MCU might be over, but he's still open to discussing superheroes. While talking to STYLEEvans dropped something of a bombshell for fans: His childhood hero wasn't Captain America, but Spider-Man. What's more, he would have liked the opportunity to play him. "I would have loved doing scenes like attaching myself to the sides of buildings and trying to spring from one building to the next," Evans said. There's just one thing that would've made things hard for him, as Evans explained,

"But I would have hated to wear Spider-Man’s mask. I’m very claustrophobic, and I doubt whether I could have worn that kind of full suit and mask for hours a day on a set. I much prefer my Captain America outfit, which I think is cooler anyway!"

Going into Endgame, many thought that Captain America would die during the final battle against Thanos. However, he actually got the sweetest ending of all: Thanks to the new time travel technology, Steve went back in time to the 1940s to live out a quiet life with Peggy Carter. Some fans weren't as pleased with this conclusion, but Evans himself seems satisfied with how his character ended up. Evans has said he doesn't think he'll return to the MCU because it could risk ruining what came before.

At least Evans' favorite hero will continue on for the time being. Spider-Man will return for his third solo adventure next year, and he's set to appear in one other MCU film beyond that. As the MCU enters Phase 4, newer characters are being ushered into the spotlight while others make their final bows. It isn't clear exactly when Spider-Man's last MCU appearance will be, but hopefully it'll be as epic as Captain America's.
