Chris Evans' surprising MCU return as Captain America could end up being for two Marvel projects instead of just one. Despite initial resistance, Evans joined the MCU in 2011, playing the heroically wholesome Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. Evans quickly became one of the biggest figures in the expansive franchise and even appeared in one movie every year from 2011 to 2019 (including cameo appearances). His final MCU role came in Avengers: Endgame, an epic finale that saw Steve return to the 1940s so he could live out a quiet life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).

Though characters and actors are constantly returning to the MCU, Evans spent his first year removed from the franchise insisting he was done playing Captain America. Though Evans shared he missed playing the Star Spangled hero, he insisted he felt things ended perfectly. That's why fans were shocked earlier on Thursday by the news that Evans is reportedly in talks to play Captain America once again. Marvel has yet to comment on the matter, but it was reported by a reputable site.

According to Deadline, Evans' MCU return could end up being for two projects. It's said that the deal is for Evans to appear in at least one Marvel property, while the door will be open for a potential second. While it isn't yet clear as to what he could pop up in, it's already confirmed it won't be another Captain America. Undoubtedly, fans will be eager to speculate about what those two projects could be.

This comes on the heels of Steve's chosen Captain America successor Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) stepping into the spotlight for his own Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That show might seem like the perfect place for Evans, seeing as it centers on Steve's best friends. However, it isn't clear if the reported deal was in the works during production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so that might not have even been an option. If a season 2 were to occur, though, then that would certainly be a frontrunner.

In terms of announced projects that have yet to begin production, an alternate version of Steve could appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or the older Steve from Endgame could pay a visit to his friend Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in Thor: Love and Thunder. It could also be that the project containing Evans' next outing as Captain America hasn't been announced yet. Right now, with the deal as new as it is, the possibilities feel endless. It sounds like the first appearance could lead into the second, so fans can probably expect them to be tied together. That feels like the only clue audiences will get for the time being. With that in mind, let the theorizing begin!
