America Chavez once became the new Captain America in a future Marvel timeline. The hero is poised to make quite the grand debut in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessHowever, long before Chavez was cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she starred in her own adventures, as well as in some with her best friend, Kate Bishop - including one story which saw her become the future Captain America.

America Chavez is a fairly new character to the pages of Marvel Comics, first appearing in 2011's Vengeance #1 by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta. The teen hero has the incredible power to create star-shaped holes, that open up portals into different realities. Her multiverse-hopping abilities make her the perfect hero to debut in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she'll be played by Xochitl Gomez. Marvel Comics has also put a renewed focus on Miss America in the recent comics, as she's currently starring in her own ongoing series, America Chavez: Made in the USA from Kalinda Vazquez, Carlos Gomez, and Jesus Aburtov.

In All-New Hawkeye #3 (2016) by Jeff Lemire, Ramon Perez, Ian Herring, and VC's Joe Sabino, the comic flashes between the present and 30 years into the future. In the current day timeline, Clint Barton stops protecting an innocent group of Inhumans from forces such as Hydra. In the future timeline, the story deals with the repercussions of that decision as Clint tries to regain the trust of Kate while they go on a rescue mission - while S.H.I.E.L.D. is using the Inhumans to kill. Helping the two Hawkeyes is America Chavez, who's taken the mantle of Captain America.

America Chavez serves as Captain America in Hawkeye comics.

While America Chavez's role in the comic is brief, she can be seen wearing a white star on her shirt as well patriotic stripes. Kate Bishop even refers to her as "Captain America Chavez," which is about as fitting a combination name as a Marvel hero has ever had. As one of the few people Kate can trust, America Chavez helps the archer's track down the Inhumans - while also warning Clint not to screw up things with Kate again.

America Chavez has some of the coolest powers in comics, so to see her become Captain America in one future Marvel timeline is a fun trajectory for the character. Even with the added responsibility of the hero, she's still got her best friend's back and was willing to take on S.H.I.E.L.D. while ensuring Clint kept things civil with Kate. Ultimately, America Chavez makes a very solid choice to become the new Captain America - especially when it comes to her new name.
