Harrison Ford's Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross will be the United States president in Captain America: New World Order, confirming a long-existing rumor about the character. The Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the upcoming Julius Onah film. He takes over the role of Ross following William Hurt's passing in 2022 and will co-star with Anthony Mackie, who is now the MCU's Captain America.

In a new interview with EW, Feige confirms the Captain America: New World Order rumor that claims that Ross will be the President of the United States in the film. Without delving into plot specifics, he also teases the dynamic between Ford's MCU character and Sam, which will be a core relationship in the film.

This is certainly a big part for Thaddeus Ross. He's the President of the United States in the film. And with Harrison, you think about "Air Force One," and you think about some of his confrontations with the President in "Clear and Present Danger." There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible.

How Ross’ New US Role Impacts Sam Wilson’s Captain America

As Feige said, Ross and Wilson have shared the screen before in the MCU. However, the pair never really got any one-on-one interactions as the then-military men tend to coordinate with more prominent Avengers heroes like Iron Man and Steve Rogers when he was still Captain America. That being said, it's safe to assume that there will be some tension between the pair considering the enforcement of the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War that branded Sam and other Team Cap members vigilantes.

Now that both characters have elevated roles in the MCU's Captain America: New World Order, it's only fitting that they will have more interactions moving forward, especially with how Sam reclaimed his rightful role as the new Captain America. Conflict could naturally arise, which could even be tied to rumors about Ross being the MCU's Red Hulk. That being said, despite their expected issues with each other, there's still a chance that ultimately, they will work together to defeat a common threat. While Ross has antagonized the Avengers before, it never seems like he is an outright bad person.

As filming for Captain America: New World Order nears, expect more information about the film to come out. That includes additional details about what Sam's primary mission will be in the film and how President Ross fits in it. However, considering what's known about it, the film sounds like it's going to be another political thriller from Marvel Studios.
