A new report suggests that Captain America: New World Order will feature an appearance by a brand-new villain team known as the Serpent Society. Coming from the original Marvel Comics, the Serpent Society is one of the more successful teams of foes who came together in response to the Avengers and Fantastic Four. However, this new rumor suggests the Society will be formed for a much darker purpose in the MCU.

Insider Jeff Sneider recently shared on The Hot Mic podcast that not only will Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross transform into the Red Hulk, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Val will be secretly backing the Serpent Society to recover a metal just as powerful as Wakanda's vibranium. You can check out the rumors in the video below (around the 30-minute mark):

Sneider also claims he's heard that the metal in question will be connected to the X-Men franchise, supporting previous rumors that adamantium will play a role in Captain America: New World Order, the same metal used to cover Wolverine's bones and claws in the comics.

Is Captain America 4 Paying Off Kevin Feige Civil War Joke?

Captain America Serpent Society Announcement

Compromised entirely of snake-themed foes such as Sidewinder, Cottonmouth, and Diamondback, the members of the Serpent Society are predominantly Captain America villains in the comics. To that end, Marvel President Kevin Feige used the team for a joke during Marvel Studios' Phase 3 announcement event at the El Capitan theater in 2014, initially claiming that the third Captain America movie starring Chris Evans' Steve Rogers would be subtitled Serpent Society before revealing the actual Civil War title. However, it seems as though it will all come full circle with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson if this rumor is proven true.

Additionally, tying the Serpent Society's origins to Val does have a degree of precedent in the comics as she was once Madame Hydra on the page, and an earlier Madame Hydra was responsible for assembling an iteration of the team called the Serpent Squad. However, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever revealed that the MCU's Val is instead Director of the CIA, meaning that everything she does (including Val's upcoming role in Thunderbolts) is likely in service to the U.S. Government. This means the Serpent Society would be working for the CIA as Val looks to gain adamantium to rival vibranium, the focal point for a brand-new arms race across the globe.

Regardless, it will be exciting to see if this new rumor is accurate the closer Captain America: New World Order gets to its release date in 2024. The Serpent Society having a secret connection to Val would certainly be a dynamic way to finally debut the team in the MCU. Likewise, it stands to reason that Sam Wilson's Captain America would be kept in the dark about their goals and who they're really working for in the new sequel.
