The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland is open to helming Captain America 4. Prior to her work on Marvel's second original series, Skogland made a name for herself directing some of television's biggest shows. From prestige dramas like The Handmaid's Tale and House of Cards to genre fare like The Walking Dead and The Punisher, Skogland has had a hand in crafting the look of some massively popular series. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier proved no different, with Skogland directing all six episodes.

The series was praised for its direction when it came to the high-flying action sequences, but now that Sam Wilson has taken on the role of Captain America it's time for his next chapter. Shortly after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's finale debuted, reports surfaced that Captain America 4 is in development with showrunner Malcolm Spellman set to pen the script. Although those who are presumably involved have downplayed the reports, it certainly seems that Sam Wilson's future in the MCU is looking bright and Skogland would like to be involved.

When asked if she was working on the film in any capacity, Skogland told CinemaBlend's ReelBlend podcast that she would do just about anything with Marvel. The director describes how close she and the cast got during filming of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, saying she has a special place in her heart for the characters and the show. Skogland ends it by saying that if Marvel head Kevin Feige called she wouldn't hesitate in picking up the phone.

I think if Marvel called me to do anything, if they called me to film the phone book, I would do it. … The Marvel characters are all very, very rich. I’ve become friends with Anthony and Sebastian, and I really enjoyed working with them. And Emily and Daniel Bruhl. I mean, I’ve worked with them for a couple of years, so of course, I have a special place in my heart. But as I said, if Kevin [Feige] picked up the phone, I would answer it.

Seeing as Skogland and the cast of Falcon and the Winter Soldier were working together over the past several years, it's no surprise they've grown so close. Skogland would be an obvious choice to helm a fourth Captain America. Along with Spellman, the director helped Sam Wilson evolve from Falcon to Captain America, deftly capturing both the fast-paced fights and the more emotional moments of the series.

It's safe to assume that Captain America 4 would continue to explore the weighty themes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, especially with Mackie at the forefront. Chris Evans' rumored return to the MCU led to speculation that he could be in the film, but reports indicate that Captain America 4 is separate from Evans' potential project. The chance to see Steve and Sam reunite is enticing, though, and seeing as he didn't turn up in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier like some thought he might, the MCU has the perfect opportunity to bring these characters together again.
