Anthony Mackie reveals that Captain America 4 is set to begin filming in a few weeks and says he's undergoing his physical prep already. Mackie first arrived on the Marvel Cinematic Universe scene with Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Steve Rogers' friend and trauma counselor Sam Wilson who aids the titular hero in his battle against a HYDRA-corrupted S.H.I.E.L.D. by using his mechanical flight suit. Nicknamed the Falcon, Mackie would carry the role through brief appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which he was inducted into the superhero team, and Ant-Man as well as heftier supporting turns in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

The latter superhero epic saw Chris Evans' Steve Rogers elect to remain in the past while returning the various Infinity Stones to their places in time and return to the present to appoint Sam as his successor of the new Captain America, gifting him his vibranium shield. This story arc would continue in Disney+'s The Falcon and the Winter in which he elects to retire the mantle and resume his role as the Falcon and goes on a globe-trotting mission with Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes. However, when the hotheaded John Walker is briefly given the role of Captain America and later stripped of the title for his brutal actions, Sam elects to take up the shield and become the world's next Cap.

In a recent interview with Extra, Anthony Mackie shared an update on Captain America 4's development. The actor revealed that he is set to begin filming on the MCU fourquel in a few weeks and is currently preparing for the physicality of the film with a specific diet. See what Mackie shared below:

In the same interview, Mackie also noted that filming on Captain America will begin after he finishes shooting Peacock's Twisted Metal series adaptation, for which he expressed he's very excited to begin. The actor's reveal that the new MCU movie is set to begin filming in a few weeks also lines up with his recent tease that he had begun prep for the project, getting in the spirit with the help of Tupac's "Hit 'Em Up." Fans of the actor and his work in the MCU are sure to be excited at the prospect of seeing his incarnation of Captain America getting back on set in the near future.

It is interesting that despite filming set to begin in a few weeks, many details surrounding Captain America 4 are currently unknown, outside of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcolm Spellman returning to pen the script with series writer Dalan Musson. Though not entirely unheard of for Marvel to keep a lid on information for its projects making their way out early, one would think a title of the film's size and notoriety would have some details surface. That being said, with Disney currently having slated five unannounced Marvel Studios films from late 2023 through 2024, Captain America 4 beginning filming this soon points towards its arrival in the near future.
