Ever since Captain America: Civil War was announced as the official title for the Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: The Winter Soldier sequel, fans have been speculating exactly which Marvel characters will appear in the game-changing release. Of course, the event pits hero against hero in the comics, with Cap and Iron Man leaders on the opposing sides.
With Robert Downey Jr. already in place, the cast of Civil War has quickly grown to include Avengers like Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson, returning along with the principal cast of The Winter Soldier) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). However, Marvel might well be far from finished compiling its list of heroes for the film.
"I've been reading Civil War - and Daredevil does appear in that. And look - again, just to clarify - I have not been called about that. I haven't been invited to that party! But it would be very very cool. Just to be in the background, saying cool stuff every now and then. It would be cool to be with all those guys."
Considering Marvel's mantra for its television projects has centered on how "it's all connected," having small screen characters like Daredevil appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe film installments like an inevitability. Plus, there's no better opportunity to do so than world-reaching scope of Civil War - especially considering that rumors indicate that headlining characters like Thor and Hulk will not factor into the story.
The big-screen Civil War will reportedly not rely on secret identities to drive the plot, but Daredevil has far more to offer the film than simply the possession of an alter ego. Earth's Mightiest Heroes may be facing galactic foes like the Chitauri and global threats like Ultron, but Daredevil would demonstrate that the plot of Civil War affects not only the larger scale heroes - it will also impact those working on the street level.
Chances are that Marvel has several surprises left to announce for Civil War, including the likely inclusion of Spider-Man. Heck, if even Anthony Mackie was not certain he would appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron until the film's poster reveal (as has been reported), there's plenty of time for Marvel to give Cox a call to suit up for Civil War.
