Warning: contains a preview for Captain America #29!

In a new preview for the next issue of Marvel Comics' Captain America, Steve Rogers is planning to take on Red Skull with an ally few would expect. Recent comics have seen the Skull and Captain America fighting for the hearts and minds of the American people, and Cap's greatest nemesis is actually winning thus far, going online as an activist to turn vulnerable citizens away from the American Dream Rogers has fought for since WWII. Furthermore, the Red Skull has also been corrupting large amounts of the country against Rogers, taking advantage of their distrust and his tarnished reputation. In spite of all this, it seems as though the First Avenger is choosing to not fight Red Skull when they next meet (at least not physically.)

Recent issues of Captain America from writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and artist Leonard Kirk have seen the Super Soldier working hard to restore his name in the eyes of the American people. Not only has a lot of distrust built up thanks to Rogers' time as Hydra's supreme leader during Secret Empire, but Red Skull's Power Elite recently framed him for the murder of General Ross. Thankfully, Rogers and the Daughters of Liberty were able to clear his name by rescuing Ross, who the Power Elite had simply captured. However, Red Skull has moved onto the next phase of his plans, masking his violent rhetoric as empowerment in a way Steve has struggled to combat.

Now, a Marvel Comics preview for Captain America #29 reveals that Captain America, Nick Fury, General Ross, the Winter Soldier, and the Daughters of Liberty are planning to go on the offensive. However, while Bucky and the Daughters are planning to go after Alexa Lukin of the Power Elite, Rogers will be taking on Red Skull directly by negotiating with Aleksander Lukin - the man whose body the supervillain is possessing to spread his evil. Supposedly, Captain America is going to try for a negotiation with Aleksander Lukin, the man who is sharing his body with the Red Skull's consciousness. Alexa Lukin recently resurrected Aleksander, knowing that since the Red Skull's mind had become a part of him, it would also bring the supervillain back to help the Power Elite achieve their ends. Though no fan of America, Aleksander does hate and fear the Red Skull, so it's possible he'll be willing to work with Captain America at the cost of his wife's plans for the country.

Whatever Rogers is planning to say to Lukin, he seems confident that he'll be able to convince him to speak to the rest of the world in a way that undermines the Red Skull's recent successes. However it all goes down when Captain America #29 releases on May 19, it's certainly going to be a unique showdown between Captain America and Red Skull, as Marvel's Super Soldier tries to recruit a villain who literally shares a body with his nemesis.
